Just wondering if anybody on here has used R-Tech (Hinckley) for a remap before?
I'm maybe going to take my car there for a Revo remap but just wanted to hear about people's views/ experiences with them before deciding to go up there...
Thanks.
-
I havn't used them but heard only good things about them. I am actually trying to get through to them myself regarding remap. They do Revo too so should be able to advise accordingly as to which remap would suit the individual best. I'll update when I have spoken to them :happy2:
-
I don't have a problem with R-Tech Mandy.
I'm just a little confused why you would want to drive all that way when you could get the same product just down the road in Portsmouth.
-
 x2
-
rtech have done alot of work for me on my old car and for loads of my mates. I can only stress how good the customer care and after service is. Fully reccommended :happy2:
-
Last time I looked (which was a while ago admittedly) R-tech were offerring great deals, maybe "portsmouth" doesn't offer a price match
I went to stoke (from Glos) to get work done on my car (not a map admittedly) because the price was stonking and the service was very highly recommended (and when I had the work done the service matched, if not exceeded the high recommendations I had been given)
-
Thanks guys. :happy2:
So some good things said about them already, that's a reassuring start!
I have been given the chance (if all goes to plan) to have a stage 1 Revo remap at a very good price, but the catch is, I can only have it done at R-Tech.
I know it's a little bit of a travel, but I think it would be worth it. :pomppomp:
Just looked on their website and noticed their Milltek prices seem quite competitive too.

If people were to declare a remap to their insurance how much extra does it push up your insurance?
-
If people were to declare a remap to their insurance how much extra does it push up your insurance?
I'm guessing it would depend on several factors eg. level of power gain, your age, past driving experience etc.
Different insurance companies will see it in different ways, some won't mind it too much, others may not like it!
I'm with Greenlight and to go stage 1 it would cost me around £100 extra IIRC. (I'm 25, 4yrs NCB).
-
If people were to declare a remap to their insurance how much extra does it push up your insurance?
....I gotta take you up on this: There should be no use of the word "IF" regarding whether to declare to your insurer. Not declaring could potentially make your whole insurance null and void which could then lead to a personal prosecution and claims for huge damages if a serious injury is involved etc etc etc. It's simply not worth risking not declaring your mods.

@ Mandy:
I realise it may be a question of money, and I've heard nothing bad about R-Tech, but JKM in Portsmouth are extremely knowledgeable and particularly expert at all things 2.0T FSI/TSI engine related and in the long term I suggest it would be better to go to someone who will get to know all about your individual car all up close and personal, regularly, and not just about the remap. Plus they are local to you. They're 2hrs drive from me but I don't hesitate.
It's your call of course :happy2:
-
Thanks for your advice Robin, I have no doubt at all that JKM are brilliant but it's a shame they are not doing any special offers at the moment :sad1: For the price I maybe able to get Revo for, it's an offer I simply can't refuse! I'll be kicking myself if I don't take it up!
Just waiting for Nick (R-Tech) to give me a call back... :popcornsoda:

A bloke at work drove down there, and had a custom r tech map put on his pirelli edition. He got to 280bhp. I think it made 300bhp, but was tuned down for a smoother power delivery, he was happy with the map :happy2:
He was down there nearly all day getting it done.
They seem to know what they are doing, and loading revo onto your car is nothing compared to a doing a custom map,
I thought you bought a milltek of the classifieds?
Either way, they have good feedback amongst the mk4 golf community :popcornsoda:
-
I've got my car booked in for Saturday. Will be getting the engine and DSG done at the same time. I'll post some feedback asap :driver:

You already have with your Bluefin handset sat at home :chicken:
If i didnt already have a remap on my car, or Bluefin handset reading to load, I would go to R- Tech aswell, but i couldnt justify wasting the money that id spent on the Bluefin previously..
Great service as has been said, and alot of people hold them in high regard
You should put the money on the Bluefin, and use the rest to buy a new Milly instead.
£300 buys you alot of other mods.

Steve, the Revo is gonna cost me the same price as getting my Bluefin reset. :happy2:
So... got it booked for Tuesday... got my DV... just waiting for you now Steve... :popcornsoda:
-
So how much is a "revo" remap costing you Mandy from R-tech??
or is it their own map??
-
Basically someone won a voucher at R-Tech charity event for a Stage 1 Revo map, his car's already mapped so he doesn't need it...

Hey, that is taking an increadibly moral high ground. Do I take it you condone breaking all laws? So you've never gone faster than 70mph on a UK motorway . . .
Whilst I fully agree with all your sentiments, I think your tone is way ott. If individuals wanna brake the law, without it having an actual and detrimental effect on you or I - then who the heck are you (or I) to forceably instruct others what to do! :fighting2:
-
buy cheap, buy twice! i lernt my lesson :innocent:
Generally, yes. But Nick at R-Tech has an increadibly good reputation - If I hadn't already had my two beasts done directly by Revo, I'd be more than happy to take the GTI along to Hinckley.
Mandy, you wont have any probs at all with going to R-Tech if you desire. They can even use their own rolling road to set up the map correctly for you.

I haven't reset the Bluefin yet, I think last time I asked it was £190-something plus Vat.

Nick at r-tech is a top bloke and really knows his stuff he takes his time and makes sure he gets the best results can't wait to take my Gti there  u won't be dissapointed Mandy

i had mine done at pd tuning and i can't fault thier service
-
oh dear
-
Had my car remapped today at R-Tech.
Unfortunately their rolling road was down so got no before or after figures :sad1:
Had Revo Stage 1 remap installed, Nick offered me the DSG remap and the SPS thingy at a good price so got those aswell :pomppomp:
Had no fault codes at all on the car so all was good. I brought my revision D DV with me incase it needed changing but Nick said the one on there is fine (G version?) so he told me to leave it for now.
The map has made such a difference, the car feels alive! :driver:
Very happy with the outcome!

This BAD review says it all.
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/372939/2546246.aspx#2546246
We washed our hands with that car and told the customer how it was, he clearly didn't like the fact that we refused to work on it or run it on our dyno as it was so badly put together (driveshafts knocking, lots of banging and clunking, boost hoses plugged with chopped up bits of wooden broom handle, wires twisted together with tape.... You get the picture) instead of getting the car repaired and paying for it he decided to spend his time posting up false claims on a forum, incidentally on the same forum we have many customers that have posted extremely favourable reports of our work.
A badly put together engine which is surrounded by a car that has been thrown together on the cheap with broomsticks plugging the holes in boost pipes is never going to run propely, even with the best software in the world installed onto the ecu, customers can't expect to bring a car to be tuned that has existing fauts and have all of those faults fixed free of charge.

Thanks Andy, Robin.
I'd highly recommend R-Tech, great people, Nick is really nice and genuine, full of knowledge too. He told me what results I could expect realistically rather than claiming to be able to achieve higher figures. Can't fault his customer service, took the time to answer all my questions until I was happy.
He is so generous too, gave me cracking prices on the map and SPS without me even asking! :notworthy:
I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, just a shame that they are quite far away from me. :sad1:
-
glad your pleased with the service you got from r-tech and the map on your car
-
Very happy for you Mandy. Bet you can't stop :driver: now!
Nick really knows his stuff. Great after sales service too. He told me to take it round anytime if I had any queries. :happy2:

Nick was telling me about your car and launch control, lol! He said you had a big grin on your face
Now I just need to get the hang of the flappy paddle things to make the most out of the DSG map.
Had a great experience, just a shame that Pip FUBAR'ed the Dyno, lol! :rolleye:
Just phoned up Greenlight to declare my maps, additional £63.17 which I don't think is that bad, I thought it would've been more than that. :pomppomp:
-

....You most certainly do! All you have to do is Think Manual and shift gear whenever you would on a conventional manual car.
You'll be wanting paddle extensions next like Steve's and mine
-

He wasn't lying... I still have!!! :P

:happy2: i had my pirelli done couple of weeks back at r tech, mine is dsg aswell it was 234 bhp before remap with pannel filter and map it was 290 bhp, happy with results just need more sun and some new tyres soon!!
-
At least you decided in the end which one to get! You'll have to Pm me the price of the revo dsg and handset, might be worth a drive down to R tech for me!

My paddle extensions are in the post off Hurdy, no one else asked him about buying them :jumpmove:
-
YOu will love those Paddle extenders, try not driving in manual all the time
-
About time to Mandy! :P
Glad your pleased, it's a bit of a no brainer on our cars as it turns them into proper road warriors! :driver:
-
I don't know if I like the look of those paddle extension bits, look like devil's horns or something  I think I can manage just fine without...
Shaky: Good results on your Pirelli. I'd be chuffed too. :happy2: I can see what you mean when you say we need more sun... the drive to Hinckley was fine, but on the way back it soon started to pour down with rain... so I stopped at the service station, grabbed a Starbucks and let my bf drive the rest of the way home.
Heavyd: Definitely recommend you give R-Tech a ring, I didn't have to pay them anything for my Revo Stage 1 map because I had a voucher, but I did have to pay for the DSG map (RRP: £299+VAT) and the SPS (RRP: £149+VAT). Both together would've been around £525, with the discount that Nick gave me, I paid £275 in total (£175 for DSG map, £100 for SPS). :jumpmove:
I don't know how this compares to the special offers you get at shows etc. but I thought it was a pretty good price! Thanks to Nick. :notworthy:
Don't really understand the settings on the SPS but I do know how to disable/enable the map and put it into anti theft mode, still, it's a good gadget to have, lol!
Nathan: :P ... Like I said before I wanted to get used to the car in standard form to enable me to really see a difference when mapped... Yes, I definitely feel a difference! :driver: I did also say I would wait til the warranty ran out, but that didn't work out... :chicken:
-
so I stopped at the service station, grabbed a Starbucks and let my bf drive the rest of the way home.
....I'm sure you had a lot of difficulty persuading him to drive your remapped car
Like I said before I wanted to get used to the car in standard form to enable me to really see a difference when mapped... Yes, I definitely feel a difference!
....Very sensible. It's a good idea to always do one mod at a time because you then experience directly what each mod does and also it's easier to troubleshoot if you get unlucky and have a problem.
-
Well they seem a lot better than PDT's prices, Dsg was going to be £234, and that was only if I got stage 1 map at the same time. Stage 2+ revo was £176, which is more expensive than the revo website :stupid: no doubt the sps was going to be full price aswell.........So when the time comes to pay for a remap again, might be worth going there instead
On another note, those paddle extensions feel much better than the standard ones. They are positioned where the OEM ones should have been in the first place, and mean you can just change gear with your fingertips with your hands on the wheel where they normally are, hard to explain, but they are a good mod :happy2:
-
Very happy for you Mandy. Bet you can't stop :driver: now!

Hello Mandy,
Thank you for your custom, feedback and the HUGE box of biscuits you left with us :happy2:
Sorry about not getting a rolling road run :ashamed: I have had Pip on a guilt trip all week blaming him for killing the motor on the ramp..lol at the moment he is upto is elbows in oil fitting the new motor. As part of every remap r-tech or Revo we offer a free rolling road session, so what I will do is give Kate a call at JKM and pay them so you can have a rolling road session on our behalf.
Any questions or problems our got out number.
Enjoy it
Nick

How many time have you played with the DSG launch?? :driver:

Hi Nick,
Yes, I've just had a phone call from Pip, he said all I need to do now is give JKM a call to get my car booked in! It's very kind of you to do that, I wasn't expecting it at all, it was good enough of you in the first place to give me all that discount! :happy2:
Well at least you managed to get Pip working on fixing it, he told us the other day it was either fix the rolling road or eat his lunch... but he said he got hungry. :signLOL:
A big thank you to you and your team, your customer service is second to none, before and after! R-tech will definitely be at the top of my recommendations list, lol! :notworthy: :congrats:
With regards to the DSG launch, I am still in the process of perfecting it  I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually...
(Welcome to the forum. :pomppomp:)

No excuses now, Mandy!
I'll add your name to the JKM dyno day list.

Hi,
Bad news is we are not a paid sponsor on this forum, so we cannot promote or do a forum special offer without the say so of the admin team. If we get the go ahead then we can do some stonking offers on all the products we provide, Helix & ZF performance clutch kits, R-Tech & Revo maps, Custom rr mapping, Forge & Milltek products, Superpro bushes, Brembo brakes, repairs, mots and servicing ect...
At the moment the Revo map prices are the same as stated on there website, the only thing we offer extra and £FOC is a full rolling road session with data logging and power runs with custom setup of the Revo settings.
and I think if your already running a Revo map or going to buy a Revo map you can get the DSG map for £149?
