Does the manual gearbox need a service at any amount of miles? I noticed this morning when going round a roundabout with drivers window down, that my car wines a bit when accelerating and slowing down?!

is this a sign that my gearbox is going??  :scared:

could be a bearing maybe joe and what the miles on the box

60k on the box, whats a bearing?   :ashamed:

My gearbox is pretty whiney too.  Has been since I bought the car 20k miles ago so I don't think its serious but I have wondered if the oil needs topping up ...

Joe, I'd recommend an oil change at those miles - genuine OEM fluids though.

And what engine mounts?  Aftermarket race mounts can amplify any transmission noise which may have already been there, but not audible.

The bearing went in my gearbox at 22k the owner before me must have treated the gears like sh*t
It cost me 500 to get it repaired the only reason i noticed there was a problem on the side of the gearbox a roubd rubber/plastic seal was leaking gearbox oil

wheel bearings are also a known weak point on the MkV's and will cause the same symptons and a lot cheaper!

I would look at wheel bearings, cv joint then gearbox, the oil is dead easy to change in the box but you need a special splined tool to get the filler plug off. Not dear and easy to get from halfords.
