I decided to swap my cam follower today, took the right hand side metal connector off my fuel pump but realised I didn't have the correct M8 spline for the left side, so put the right side back on, put everything back together, opened my drivers door and the left un touched metal pipe started leaking fuel! I have tried tightening the bolts to no effect.
I'm going to get the correct M8 bit tomorrow and take it off, does anyone have any ideas why its pi**ing fuel!
-
Apart from something has come loose i can't think why.
Are you sure it's coming from there and not spraying from the one you did remove on to that one.
-
Opening the driver's door primes the fuel pump hence the leakage.
-
It shouldn't be leaking if it's all put back together. Which is what the OP did before opening the door.
-
100% sure, it drips drips drips! it got worse when i tightened it!!!
i just hope that tomorrow when i get the correct bit that i can change the follower, put the pump back together and have no leak...otherwise...new screws? or pump possibly.
do you have access to that program that tells you the part numbers for the pump and all the metal connectors that go into the front of it?
i also fitted a new n75 valve as it was only £20 from dealers and took me 40mins to fit being very carefull.
-
You mean ETKA
Yes give me 5 while i locate it…...
-
have you crossed the thread of the union???
just a suggestion
-
Sounds like a real pig! My guess would be overtightening or you have cross threaded the connector.
Careful you don't bend the metal pipes too much when getting thebolt loose. The pipes need to be bent slightly though to remove the pump.
The connections need to be nipped tight not overtight.
Hard to describe but you should be able to feel it.
Oh and don't be daft enough to drive it whilst leaking fuel :rolleye:

What Engine code and model year are you? AXX 2006 isn't it?

from that picture i get the idea that that has 1 metal and 1 rubber pipe not the 2metal i have...

thats it! part 19 is the m8 thread, and 1b is the other bit.
-
Thats it Carl :happy2:
Good choice to not drive it.
Had another thought to undo the splined bolt you dont have to touch the nut above it. If you tried to undo this it would just bind against the bolt and cause a leak.
-
well i think its sorted....possibly.
no more leaks...from what i can see but does the fuel pump hiss? or is that some fuel escaping at very high pressure i can hear but cant see?
-
bollocks.
just cleaned the left nut, and VERY slowly fuel seaps down it, never turns into a drip.....
vrs carl whats the part number for part 19?
cheers
-

Many thanks!
-
Should there be any washers on those bolts?
-
Not sure mate,
Not according to the Pic. I wouldn't think so but it would be best to check with a Stealer when you order a new one :happy2:
-
There were no washers on mine......... :popcornsoda: :popcornsoda:
-
Many thanks to all that replied, ended up with a new fuel pump and bolts. I couldn't fit the HPFP internals because I didn't have the correct tools, so just running standard fuel pump at mo, but to be honest I could take that pump off n back on in no time after doing it 10times already. Thanks to s2 ant for the pump and carl for part numbers!
-
Your welcome.
What tools are you missing as the only thing i didn't have was the deep socket. Soon got one though from local tool shop :happy2:
-
when we done ours with vrSY from here we lost the washer inside the pump which caused a leak, what a ballache but we found it and all went back together fine in the end. its a tiny ting brass washer which makes all the difference
-
Its the same tool you were missing!
-
Balls, just done this to mine! :sad1:
Off to VW on Tuesday for the two parts needed
-
Hi all, I have cross threaded the union bolt and my pump is leaking fuel everywhere - can someone let me know the part number to get a new bolt?
-
old thread to bump!
is this what you need? - https://www.akstuning.co.uk/shop/home/1289-tfsi-ea113-hpfp-banjo-bolt-wht000285c.html (https://www.akstuning.co.uk/shop/home/1289-tfsi-ea113-hpfp-banjo-bolt-wht000285c.html)

thanks for the reply, its actually the brass valve on the right side but I have found a new pump that I have bought and will take apart
