Quite easy to do really. I've been thinking about a permanent place for the amp for a while now too.
Probably start that when the weather gets a little warmer.

i was going to post my system.. but then you said no boxes haha
-
you know, i reckon i'm going to give this a go, kits are quite reasonable on fleabay.
sub on one side, amp on the other
added to the 'to do' list

If you don't mind loosing the spare, one way of offsetting the extra weight

I like the bottom two installs, but it rather defeats the purpose of having a build by reducing the ability of putting anything in your boot to...well....zero!!
-
Sorry i took it most of you would have seen similar types of builds to these before. Having been involved with caraudio since the mid/late 80s i sometimes make the mistake that people know certain things for granted.
Theres an infill section, then a cover that goes over them. As you can see in the photos the white parts are sunk in. These get grill/infill section and a carpet like material cover is then fitted on top. I did not see much point in showing these as all you will see is what looks like an empty boot  and i had thought most people would have prob seen similar to these many times before.
This is the infill on the second off last one i posted..
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb361%2Fflogitg%2FAudioNetPhoto%2Fsimplicityinsoundagti21.jpg&hash=c42155b543073616c55a7948764bf2f0ba6da601)
And the last one i posted.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb361%2Fflogitg%2FAudioNetPhoto%2Fsimplicityinsoundjgti55.jpg&hash=9cb980ea7dc0dda9c326c38762f26d880b338822)
cover fitted on top of last one ( I have not include the cover photo of the second off last one but its basically the same just fits better lol )
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi23.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb361%2Fflogitg%2FAudioNetPhoto%2Fsimplicityinsoundjgti54.jpg&hash=5a89221fb631424771703285f45f41a58c39d0ba)
As you can now see the boot is still usable. :happy2:
The other advantage is its very stealth.
-
They're fantastic Snoopy!
What kind of cost are you talking for something like them?
-
Costs, It all comes down to labour costs and this changed depending were you live.
From experience the floor type is much simpler and easier to do than a wheel arch one so if anyone can follows Hurdys step by step they can do the wheel well one just as easy. Infact its much easier do too less effects of gravity lol.
(Note: non of the above photos are ones i have done myself there ones i have saved to my computer to get ideas from in the past.)
-
Don't you have to disconnect or not use the installs when covered up? I would have thought that the amp would need air circulating around it to stop it from overheating and failing!
-
Thats what fan cooling is for!

Yes, but if your amp is in a sealed enclosure and covered with fabric/hardboard, how can a fan remove any heat.....unless you have a ducted fan drawing in cold air and expelling hot air from the enclosure?
-
Those look cool, likeing the embossed GTI logo but prefer the single section carpeted look/cover. Great idea.
-
A push-pull configuration of two or more fans using a thermo switch control and you normally use ducting to the stail air outlets in the boot to feed and extract air.

Gotcha. :happy2:
I bet there are a fair few who would cut the corners though and then regret the build without proper cooling. :rolleye:

Most 'good' amplifiers have a thermo cutoff in them so all they should do is simply switch themselfs off until they cool enough to a level it is set to reset at.
You do often find as you said people do not cool them and it all depends on the amplifier make model and design how hot it runs they often can get away with it.
