Hello guys
As we all know a common design error on the GTi is that the VW badge on the key fob constantly either falls off or rubs off..
Our key currently has no badge as it has gone completely silver... Time to replace me thinks.
I found the following:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vw-remote-badge-for-remote-fobs-key_W0QQitemZ320336578077QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item320336578077&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

The question is... Which do you guys reckon is nest? And what alternatives are there? Maybe one that says GTI on it etc?
Please help. All help would be appreciated.

My key badge did exactly as you have described, within about two months of ownership. Completely rubbed off to reveal plain silver.
When i took my car into the dealer for some work they replaced the badge without me even asking, and it has held up perfectly for over a year now. Not even one area that has rubbed off, and I treat it exactly the same as before!
Maybe the dealers have cottoned-on to this pitfall from the factory and as such have found a solution? Or maybe it is just my dealer sourcing local parts. No idea...

We dont like our dealer.... lol
Ideally the plan was to find something different... Instead of just the VW badge... Maybe a GTI one etc.. But cant seem to find any...

I still have some of the original badges, PM if you want one for £2 delivered.

there was a guy on the r32oc website who was manufacturing something similar to these from brass with print on, he had them for key fobs and steering wheels i know this as i bought 2 lots of .:R line ones. Theyre a good replacement however they dont last long before they chip due to the other keys and stuff that they come into contact with. OEM is always better, maybe your dealer will do a freebie
saying that though, i've been toying with the idea of getting the rabbit logo (as in sig pic below), something like £12 iirc for the wheel and fob

As RR would say, "Modify, my child!"

as above, the aftermarket ones arent very good. ive got one on my mk4 anni, its says GTI in red on a black background. they dont last long at all, its a very exposed area.

same as mine, on the mk4

i knew i had a pic somewhere:

also worth noting, that even after you peel off the original and then stick one of these aftermarket ones on they still stick out proud a little:

unless you want it to say something other than VW then i would stick OEM back on :happy2:

I bought one from my dealer for about £2.50! I will try and find you the part number! :happy2:

The part number on the packet ive got is 3B0 837 891 09Z
Hope this helps :happy2:

Thanks MarkyMark.
Just shows you the lack of knowledge at your typical VW dealership. Admittedly I didn't ask to speak to the parts guy, but at this particular dealership the parts guys only appear on request, after you have spoken to the service desk.
On arrival I asked the lady on the service desk about whether or not I could order the badge she just replied "No, I'm afraid you would have to order a new key fob."
I walked out pretty soon after.

No worries fella, happy to help. I have learnt that a decent parts guy is worth their weight in gold when it comes to things like this. :happy2:

I bought one of the Wolfsburg ones a few months ago for about £5, lasted about a month, then scratched to bits, got a refund though!
