Title: Mystery message found inside the car......all a bit Scooby Doo....
Post by: VC on February 05, 2009, 09:32:54 am
So as you know the car's still quite new, and as yet haven't needed to clean the interior yet.  But with all this wet/snowy weather I got a bit damp collecting the kids from school yesterday.  Got home, parked up.  Few minutes later I went back outside to get something I'd left in the car and saw this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMy_Candy%2FInside_Screen%2F001.jpg&hash=825392fafe592e66930ec86d5807e4aed6c7f1f1)

Yes, it's fogged up.....but if you look inside my yellow circles you can see the suction cup marks still on the screen from where it was installed at the factory  8)

Tres cool thought I, grabbed camera and took the above shot. Notice there's nothing in the top right hand corner (top of passenger side screen)

being a picture whore I decided to jump in the car to take an interior shot and for some reason...the flash I assume... the circles just wont appear

but...something else did  only visable with a camera flash, like I said in the thread title....very Scooby Doo, take a look:

Without the flash you see nothing!  So what do you reckon it was for? I would guess it's not a label for the glass as there's too much information and it's on the inside, so would lead me to thinking it's something to do with delivery or production

flipped and darkened:

the circular things will be from the suction clamps when they installed the glass on the production line.

and the label was probably a list of 3 digit codes, probably specifying the whole car. engine, no of doors, colour, optional extras etc! ;)

I never noticed the marks on my car until I started using AG glass polish. Did both sides of the windscreen and when it misted up the next day, I could see the circles and the white strips with holes like on either side of your message.

Figured it was when they were trying to sell the car and stuck prices and notices to the car.

Very annoying because I want to get rid of them.

As Jay said the circle's are from the suction pads which attach the screen to the robot arm during installation in the factory.

The sticker is the build sheet from the factory to ensure all the right bits get fitted. I know this as I saw my old GTI at Wolfsburg on the production line and one of the technicians explained what it was!  :happy2:

Mystery solved! Pesky kids!!  :signLOL:

Not tried it but i guess something like clinical alcohol should do it, i.e alcohol wipes you get in first aid kits.

Here's the weblink for the 3 digit codes. They're actually called PR strings and each and every option and part of the car has a code for it. It also generates the manifest sheet which the car has during build

http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

Hope this helps!!
