Hello,
I've been reading this forum for months now but never got around to posting my hello. I was waiting to take a nice picture for you all to see but the car is never clean enough!! So instead I've taken a couple of shots of it tucked up in the garage.

As you can see it is a standard 200bhp 5 door GTI with 18 inch Monza II's and 6 CD changer/armrest. I've owned it for 3 years now (but only recently discovered this forum).
Thanks to the helpful how to guide on this forum I have already upgraded the radio with an RNS510 Rev C (plus associated CAN gateway) and I am currently in the process of purchasing markymark's reversing camera. LED tail's next!?!
I bought the car second-hand from a car supermarket, they told me it was an ex-lease car hired to the Ministry of Defence! I'm inclined to believe them because their is a German dealer stamp in the service book for some recall work and I know the UK still have army bases in Germany. The car supermarket had another GTi and an R32 bought from the same lease company for sale when I bought mine and the salesman told me they regularly buy and sell these ex-MoD cars - I'm sure the MoD would be better off spending our taxes on body armour for the troops in Afghanistan.

Welcome to the forum mate. Any mods planned?

Hi and welcome.
Don't be afraid to take the car out of the garage for some pics. Not everyone cleans their car and if you drive it properly, it won't stay clean either!

Welcome mate.. How did you find the CAN gateway upgrade?

Welcome mate.. How did you find the CAN gateway upgrade?
The CAN gateway upgrade was not easy but I managed!! Unfortunately my CAN is in the most difficult of the 3 places on a RHD - above the brake pedal. It was fairly easy to get the gateway off it's little shelf by taking out the trim cover above the pedals but there was no way I could get the plug to disconnect without taking off the rest of the trim underneath the steering wheel. Once I had taken this off it was a 5 minute job to disconnect the cable and plug in the new gateway.
Coding with VCDS was dead easy, but I was glad of other posts warning about errors when you reconnect the battery - my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree until I'd driven the car 100 yards to reset the ABS, steering angle sensor, etc.
