Guys
Sunday at the pod my oil light came on,Quick as a flash a member on here ,sorry name escapes me,borrowed me enough to carry on.
Since coming home I've been stuck in the office from 7am till late.
Thing is the oil light is on again,I,m at work, its snowing really bad and I cant escape to my local dealers 25 miles away.
There are some local garages nearby,(Esso etc).I dont want to use their off the shelf stuff but I,ve got no choice.
What do I need for my GTI?
Cheers in anticipation

If it has this written on it:
5w30
504.00/507.00
If they have the Castrol Edge stuff then you will be fine.
Mobil 1 offer the same oil, but the Castrol is considered better due to a number of reasons.
But as a temporary fix, the Mobil would be fine.

Cheers dude.Printed and ready to go.

BP have a partnership with Castrol, so they should sell the Castrol stuff! :happy2:

Hi People,
Hate to dig uyp an old thread but didnt want to start a new one. Kind of in a bind myself. Had the oil light come on too and need a quick top up. There was some 5w30 'carlube' oil in Morrisons and wasnt sure if this would be ok for a top up or if I should be using another brand for my GTi? I've kept the receipt but either way I'm ok. Also if anyones got any idea how much I should put in for a top up please let me know!
Thanks in advance!

Better to put Morrisons oil in than have it running low, don't worry about it.
It took one litre recently for me to top up from the low marker to the high marker on the dipstick. So you'll need more than that to get to max. Just add say a quarter litre at a time and check the level as you don't want to go too much over, if at all.

When you do a full oil change put some fully synthetic in. It should meet VW 504-507 specification.
-
Thanks for the help, the stuff I've bought is fully synthetic. Can someone tell me what the difference is between fully and part synthetic please?
Thanks!
-
Part synthetic degrades faster as it contains mineral oil as well as synthetic. It also will not take kindly to the higher temperatures that a high performance engine will subject it to. It is okay in the short term, but even VW has moved away from part synthetic for the GTI.
