.
You can....

....On a legally unrestricted autobahn in Germany. The GTI is very stable even at 140 mph (GPS, not speedo display which isn't as accurate) but the hatchback drags aerodynamically and acceleration tails off noticeably.

She'll go at 130 mph all day without any issues. When you first come back to the UK, 70 feels like 40!  :sad1:

It's about time the UK followed in Germany's footsteps but I very much doubt it will. Too many people in the UK who bleat about what they think it'll cost to the NHS etc etc. Speed does NOT kill!

Me and a few of the lads off here had a play on the Autobahn on the way to the ring last year. I had just past 170 on the speedo and then I chickened as there were a few cars in the distance. I am not sure what that would be in real speed but it felt quick!  :happy2:

me and carl have both had over 170 on GPS in our vRS's when in germany

the best autobahn i found has to be the A61 from the ring to moenchongladbach where i lived.  massive flat straight followed by a massive downhill section.

i bottled it at 172 though because i had no idea how long the tyres would handle that.

did not realise they were geared for it.

I think if you have the oomph for it you will hit 186mph on the limiter too with the 2.0TFSI. Well thats what the uae prince claims anyway with his 500hp TT.

C'mon guys! There's no way a Golf hatchback will reach a true 186 mph on the flat - You're just willy-waving.

No reason why a big turbo one wont, know 2 guys who have done over 170 indicated in a stage 2 plus k04, plus the 2vrs guys have done 170+.

And the 186mph on the limiter isnt a 2.0TFSI

my vRS which has a better drag coefficient than the GTI was pretty much maxed out at just over 172 no way was there another  14mph, and considering they share the same gear box id agree with RR tbh.  more power wont make more speed, its the gearing thats the limiting factor, more power will make it reach the vmax quicker thats all

Tbh i think around 170 is the limit not that it really matter anyway because you aint gonna be able to do that until your on the autobahn and how often is that.

used to use the autobahn everyweek until this time last year.  that and all the track work is why i never u the car up for sale on any forum.  it spent alot of time working very hard

I would have agreed, but according to the UAE prince its possible, his limiter has probably been raised a fair bit though.

His cars on youtube, its good to watch.

EDIT,

Hes on a dsg box, dont know what difference that has on gearing!

No way, everyone knows a GTI will do 200mph with a remap and some furry dice
