Hi all,
I am hoping to sort out a Revo Stage 1 at the end of the month (2005 GTI), just curious as to whether others would reccomend a replacement panel filter at the same time? Does it make a difference? I presume that the Stage 1 is a standard map and whoever applies it (i'm in Surrey if people can reccomend anyone) won't be tweaking it?
Only experience I've had around this was with my old Leon where F1 in Brighton fitted a Custom Code map and chucked in a K&N filter as part of the deal. No idea if it made a difference or is recommended.
Thanks in advance
Ian

A Panel filter won't hurt and it will help it breath a bit easier.
You will be lucky to get 1 Bhp extra though as it does feck all power wise. May help with MPG though :happy2:
Surrey rolling road is nearby but not sure if they supply Revo maps or not.
You have JKM in Portsmouth if you fancy a drive. Will be worth it just for the drive back ( trust me ) I drove a 450 mile round trip to use JKM when i first went Stage 1 and i have used them for all the Modifications on my car bar the stuff i have fitted myself.

^^^^
Second Carl's recommendation of JKM - They're experts on the 2.0T FSI and also Revo tuners with a rolling-road and on-the-road laptop.

JKM :happy2: :happy2:
panel filter = wouldnt bother , maybe fit a new OE element if it hasnt been changed for a long time.
best save your money for a proper intake which will give you gains :happy2:

I would be tempted to spend the money on the latest revision divertor valve as the early ones are prone to split, even more so if you have a remap.

.... x 2 :happy2:
Good idea to change your oem paper panel filter every time you do an oil service.

I had a pipercross panel filter fitted at the same time as I had my car AMD stage 1 remapped. I did not have a dyno run with/without panel filter so cannot say if it makes much difference but I thought for the cost of it and the free fitting why not plus I am sure it feels better for it(probably psychological only). The car was so much better after the remap anyway. Stage 2 is a huge improvement again!
I have used AMD in Essex who always seem to do a good job. They do revo and their own remapping with before and after dyno runs. Where abouts are you in Surrey.?

Thanks guys,
I am just outside Horsham in Surrey. Have had quotes from TC Garage in Sussex and Tutts (VW Specialist) in Dorking for a Revo Stage 1, 4 new Eagle F1 tyres and new pads all round. Will look up JKM.
What is a divertor valve, and what benefits will replacing it have?
-
Just get the new OEM diverter valve (it's a electrically controlled valve that is attached to the Turbo)
The old ones had a rubber diaphragm that was prone to splitting. The new one is a piston type so it wont split :happy2:
-
The advantage is that it will either leak loosing you boost pressure and power, or the addition of a map that requests extra boost will cause the old one to fail, so if you want extra power then its a small cost but very worthwhile as you will loose any benefit from a map if you have a boost leak.

Thanks all, part located on the JKM site:

Is this something that can be fitted at home, or is it best left to the pros?

You can do it yourself in about 45 mins :happy2:

....Er, you're fairly expert, Carl - Ian's spannering skills might be more like mine and does he have the right tools? Is there a How-To guide for him?

That's the funniest thing i have heard for a while. Trust me im no expert in any way shape or form
All you need is a set of Axle stands and the following Tools.
T25 & T27 Torx bits (For removing undertray)
5 or 6mm Allen Key (Some also have a T30 Torx bolt) or Bit you can attach to a Small Socket spanner.
I'm pretty sure i have the pics to make a tutorial so i will knock one up later if i get chance. If not i'll try and take some pics this weekend :happy2:
But this is the process.
Jack car up and Place on axle stands ( do not do this on a Jack you could get seriously hurt or killed)
Get underneath the car. On either side of the undertray you will see 4 x T25 Torx Bolts. Undo these and place in a container.

At the rear of the undertray (towards the centre of the car) you will see 3 slightly larger T27 Torx bolts (i have known these to be T30 aswell). Remove these and place in the container with others. Undertray will drop down so keep hand on it or you could break the plastic arms at the front.

Pull undertray towards rear of car and it will slide off. Place this out the way.
On the Drivers side of the car at the rear of the engine you will see the Turbo. Attached this is the DV. Unclip the electrical connector from the DV. The DV is then held in by either 3 x 5/6mm allen bolts or 3 x T30 bolts. Undo these to remove the DV. Replace the DV and do up the bolts (hand tight followed by 1/2 turn is enough) and re-connect the electrical connector.

Job done. Now just re-fit the undertray and lower the car :happy2:
