No cupra driver will ever buy one! Costs a few grand extra but dont get anything really over the normal cupra.

I don't agree. FR has a K03, Cupra has a K04...
So it's like buying a GTi or an ED30. Big differance.
Plus you can get the K1 Cupra which looks amazing.

I know it's not the same but I had a Leon Cupra R and didn't consider buying the standard Cupra because of the extra power and extra kit as standard.

You get a lot more for your money with a Seat.

cupra and cupra r tune to the same power output, and the chassis is the same

Like windows that are wet on the inside after it rains.............
Like a DPF that doesn't last more than 5K miles (90 mile commute to work Somerset to Portsmouth)
Like a Dash that was designed by a Nursery School.
Like an even worse customer service than VW
Like a Diesel that really sounded like a Tractor.

Been there, done that, apart from the above, I enjoyed my Leon FR Tdi 170 (xenons, sunroof, bluetooth, 18's, etc for 18K), I wanted to like the car, but the above problems overcame that, and I sold and bought a Golf.

agree with pov about the r, whats the point? the old cupra r was awsome for the time, i still think the best vag in recent years for a daily driver.

Which Cupra are we talking about? Mk1 or mk2?

Mk1 was based on the golf mk4, same chassis. Cupra had the mk4 gti engine and Cupra r had S3/TT engine so they didn't tune up to the same.

Sounds like you had a lot of bad luck. Better check the car out properly next time  :happy2:

the mk2 cupra and cupra R. same engine, same chassis, different ecu settings and a shed load more cash.  buy a cupra, fit a diff, remap it and it'll be a muc better car than the cupra R with a remap

Makes sense now. I was taking about the MK1. Nevertheless, I'd still have the K1 if I was looking to buy a Cupra.

i keep finding myself looking at cupras.  loads of 56-57 plates going for 8k.  that would leave me a tidy 3k for mods.

but then i remember the interior and change my mind, but then..................

I have no idea!  :signLOL:

Still, I'm pretty sure FR has same engine as standard mk5 GTI and Cupra has same engine as S3/ED30?
If that's right, they can't tune up to the same?

I love the K1. I always stare when I see a white one go by

think you are confused about these engines

the ed30, pirelli, cupra, cupra r, scirocco R and S3 share the same k04 TFSI with different settings.  all tune to the same output.  the only difference is  the S3 has the uprated intercooler( which id guess the scircoco R and cupra R have as well) but this is only a £300 modification

Reference the cupra K1, it is mechanically identical to the cupra in every way apart from the body kit which seat UK chose to fit to some and charge an excessive surcharge for.  so wgen someone says their K1, think cupra with a body kit.

the leon FR, vRS, GTI, A3 all have the same k03 TFSI engine but are the same power and make the same power when mapped.

Not confused about the engines mate. I already know everything you stated in the previous post.
I just had no idea there was a 'Cupra R' in the mk2 range. Thought it was just FR and Cupra with K1 being the limited edition model?

Oh and 8k for a 56-57 plate? Bargain! I'm sure you could do something with the interior

could close my eyes, lol.  I always that skoda was the budget VAG brand.  it runs rings around the leon interior.

Hmmm what would 3k get me,

not sure about the k1 being limited edition, id bet there are more Frs and diesel leons with that kit than there are cupras.  Id juststoick with the std cupra.  Much more classy.  K1 =Chav chariot IMO

Thank you for being so helpful.  The Test drive was a 48 hour test drive, of the same model car.  It displayed none of the above, apart from the Sh!te dash, which as a fault on its own, was bearable.

The Test car had no issues with the windows, I didn't do 5K in a weekend, so no DPF issues, Dealer wanted my money, so was very helpful, and the engine when new and tight was ok.

But I do thank you for being helpful.

I really don't see the issue with the interior? Yes the one slab of plastic on the centre console is a bit brittle looking but the rest is pretty much the same as most stuff for the same price. Plus a bit of vinyl warp would soon sort most of it out!

Give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised! I certainly was by the one I just had!  :happy2:

and that is the thing...you pay for what u get.

They skimp on interior but give u some pukka engines instead. so swings and roundabouts.  and you can't fault the VFM factor at all (my first new car was a Seat)

But as I'm getting old interior niceness becomes more of a must (especially if I have to give the FD a lift now and again)

Unless i could drive a car Blindfolded, i would never go for a Seat

They must of sacked the exteria designer of the car for doing a decent job, before he had chance to do the Interior.

Shame.....

Id spend 3 grand extra for a decent place to sit and look at personally.

Imo

Although i wish the golf was to Audi's standards in some cases.

id pay for a k04 vRS.
Title: Re: Leon Cupra R
Post by: Richn83 on September 14, 2010, 08:11:13 pm
according to the seat blurb the chassis of the R has been tweaked, but it wont have the widened stance of the rocco and the lowered center of gravity, also has quilted leather buckets as standard and the technology pack over the cupra but thats where the similarities end.  But I would personally pay the extra to get a Rocco R which will hold more of its value!  Or more likely get a less hot A3 with quattro and S-Tronic.

For a £5k premium i could tweek the chassis fairly well on the Cupra

White K1s have the best residuals.

Its a young boys car but see loads of older people with em funilly enough.

Either way mines only depreciated 2.3k in 1.5 years  :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove:

The rear has the main difference, but its just the R exhaust system and a fake diffuser...

I must admit i would stick with a standard Cupra and tweak it rather than pay a premium for the Cupra R.
If i really really wanted something with an R badge it would probably be a rocco R over the exhorbitant Golf

I was looking cupras two weeks ago, and the interior was just not for me the big grey slab of plastic in the centre ruins the car for me the rest was ok though although I felt that doors and rear door opening handle felt a bit flimsy and the a pillars were massive ! I'm going to hang on to the golf tbh there is nothing out there that floats my boat at the moment apart from the 335i and focus rs, but I reccon the a year down the line will see a fair drop in the price of those so time to get the gti in the 13 second catagory !
Title: Re: Leon Cupra R
Post by: Slickline on September 28, 2010, 11:48:41 pm
I know what you mean the A pillars are massive and you have to take a good look when trying to see round them, never noticed it so much in my previous mkv. The RNS 510 fairly improves the dash in the cupra although it was a bloody expensive extra!
The interior plastics are maybe not as tactile as the other vw group offerings but are just as robust as those in my old mkv gti, i don't notice them when driving funnily enough
