Ok so my attempt to post a few pictures, excuse the rubbish dealer photos lol
I'll be looking at some 18" Monza's to replace the 17's ASAP and the rear lower bumper is getting colour-coded

Welcome Matt. Enjoy the car!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome :)
Couple of newbie Q's: do the 18" Monza's come up for sale on here regular?
Also if I go down the mapping road (stage 1) what sort of things should I be looking at doing 1st? Read on here about changing the diverter valve to the newer oem one? Finally will the standard clutch handle the extra 50bhp etc?
Many thanks, Matt :)

Hi mate.
The Monza II's do come up quite regularly and if you check the 'For sale' link there may well be some going at the moment.
The clutches on the standard GTI are supposed to cope no probs with a stage 1 remap however if the clutch is on its way out it'll obviously kill it quicker than in standard. I've had my standard GTI with a stage 1 Bluefin remap for the last twelve months and I've had no problems with the clutch. The only issue I had was it causing a few old spring clips on some of the air hoses to fail but it was a very cheap fix with a few new jubilee clips.
The standard DV is woefully pants mate. Before you do anything I'd get that replaced IMO. Its cheap to do and for the piece of mind worth it I would say.

Thanks for that info Boothy, really helpfull! The cars done 80k so god knows how much life the clutch has left lol
Is the bluefin a good map then? Not to "savage" in terms of acceleration?
Also would you recommend the newer oem DV or go for a Forge one?
Thanks
-
From reading the post on here the OEM DV seems to be rated much higher than the Forge one and I believe some people have said it holds boost better too. Plus its a fraction of the price!
I like the Bluefin remap mate. Its pretty much power delivery that mirrors the standard map but just with added 'umph'. REVO has a much bigger following from the recent poll (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,9692.0.html) and I've heard its a lot more aggressive plus it has more torque. For me I was struggling to find a local REVO dealer plus I too was worried about the clutch so decided to play it safe and went for the Bluefin. Its still loads quicker than standard though and doesn't mean trailing to a dealer if your not near a local one plus you get 10% off in the forum discount section.
I spent months deciding whether to remap or not with the same concerns as you. In the end I ran the car standard for 6 months to see if any issues arose with my new car and then thought sod it. If it breaks it breaks

I've been the same mate, pondering weather to map or not, the Bluefin seems the way to go for me then, nothing too aggressive but a nicer kick in the back!
Thanks for the help Boothy
