Just got the car but not got round to doing a decent clean of the bay and bodywork yet. Figured it would be best to get it done properly by someone who knows what they are doing, making it easier to stay on top of. Can anyone recommend someone near the Heathrow area please? Would not be averse to spending some wonga to get a good base to start from.

I need to do this too let me know if you find anything.

have a look at the list on detailing world.
If you want anything other than a wash or a wax top up i wouldnt recommend anyone without a unit.
the controlled environment is essential to ensuring the work is done to the highest standard.
whats your post code?

Jay,
You need to start doing a Mobile service

Car looked appalling at VW Players :ashamed:

I don't agree with the statement about the mobile detailers. They provide just as good a service as those with a unit.. and can do it cheaper as they dont have the outgoing of the unit to pay for!
I've done plenty of top end cars with my friend and we have had near 100% correction... Outdoors!
-
erm...ok :signLOL:
what happens when the wind blows some dust onto the car?
what happens when you need to spend 20 hours on a correction on a golf (which lets face it, your not going to get a full correction without doing nearly 20 hours) and it starts to rain?

Excuses are for the Weak  :P

perfection is exclusive

I am with jay, on this one, if your willing to pay for someone to detail your car, then you either love your car ( a lot ) or you have an eye for detail, and want it looking perfect. If you are outside then surely you are accepting a compromise. Which seems strange to me, when you look at the initial reason for a detail.
Of course us average Joe's would probably not be able to spot a detail were it has had some dust blown on it during the process, but thats why we would choose to get it detailed by a pro is it not.

Depends on the use of the car as well. Some like a driveway queen that has low miles, whilst others need a working car that is very likely to get covered in all sorts. My case is it is a working car, so figure I get it the best I can then put the effort into maintaining the car instead of hard work cleaning it and never getting to the standard it could get to if it was done properly.

x2

I already do a mobile service but only for washing and wax top ups. Anything else has to be in a controlled environment. I dont care what anyone says, a unit is essential if you want the best out of the work. We go as far as to set the humidity and temp to what it needs to be for applying coatings etc. I cant be having my standards to be compromised by and old dusty garage or the wind or rain etc.
forget about using a bloody gazebo for machine polishing under!!!
If a customer can provide a clean garage with enough space around me to work, ill carry out pretty much all my work other than correction details there.
Otherwise, ill rather let someone else who doesnt full understand the detailing concept to try they're best and battle on, whilst risking their own rep, not mine!

So if i get a 500Sq Ft Hermetically Sealed garage you will come to me
-
yes, much like my 3000sp ft "surgery"

Excellent. I'll be attacking the garage then this weekend with some Duct tape to seal it off
-
haha...it can be seen as being over the top, but so can the whole detailing industry in some peoples eyes. If its going to be done, its gotta be done right, no if, buts or driveways! ;0

I appreciate what you are saying, some people just haven't got the money for that tho.
You make it sound like correction can't be achieved at home or in the drive.
Guess it just depends what level of correction the customer is looking for and their budget. :drinking:
-
most of the time it cant. It depends how you use the term correction.
Try an IPA wipedown on most peoples "corrected" paint and then see if it takes less than 18 hours to correct a golf. Not something i would dream of doing on a driveway. Far better to go down the enhancement route

I would tend to agree with jay and say it couldn't be achieved. You would be forever chasing the error with all sorts of stuff in the Atmosphere landing on the car all the time.
But as you say if the customer isn't looking for a decent correction (that will be an enhancement detail then ) then maybe it is worthwhile using a mobile service

What he said :signLOL:

I agree with JPC. It's near impossible to do anywhere near a decent detail on the street, and most people's garages are too small.
I live on a main road and the most I can do is foam/wash/clay/glaze/seal/wax. Even then, I have to be up and at it at 5am for me to be done before the traffic spreads dust everywhere. You really need protection from the elements and environment. No way would I ever attempt a proper correction.
-
your right stealth.
But for the DIYers, im not saying dont try. Im just saying, if money is being exchanged, nothing than the best should be served up.
I dont even dry vehicles outside my unit. They get rinsed off, straight in the unit, doors shut, all whilst being dripping wet
