Title: Hi there. Could someone please help?
Post by: YorkshireGTI on February 06, 2009, 04:05:25 pm
Hi Guys
I am returning to VW after desrting to BMW due to some "issues"   :mad:with the VW dealership in Doncaster. previously I have had 2 mark II golf GTI's, an 8 and a 16 valve, followed by a mark III 16v. I then had enough of the issues the doncaster dealer caused so left the VW scene.
Recently I have driven a friends mark 5 GTI and compltely loved it.   :driver:
After doing some research i am a tad confused over which GTI to buy, either the GTI or the GTI Edition 30?
What are the differences on the standard car? is it just the body work and darkened lights?
Modifications i would evetually like to fit are a chip, induction kit, maybe a dump valve ( though I am not really sure what they do) and a quality exhaust.
Ive got around £16-£18k to spend on one so i am hoping to find a car in excellent condition .
Really appritaite all genuine help, i am driving my wife to despair
Thanks
Jase

Welcome to the forum Yorkshire.

There are quite a few differences between the ED30 and a GTI.
I would say if you are going to map the car then punt for the ED 30 its got a different engine in than the standard GTI which gives an enormous leap in power for about 500 quid. somewhere in the region of 60 BHP increase.
There are a few cosmetic differences which really come down to personal taste IE different seats and wheels and body trim.
£ 17000 will get you a great spec one as well enjoy.  :driver:  if i could choose aqain it would be a ED 30 for me, this said i love my GTI.

hi and welcome to the site mate, i too have had a few silly issues with the doncaster dealer  :rolleye: but nothing too major.  Its up to you mate which to choose as theres quite a few things different between them, you`ll have to get some serious reading done  :signLOL:    if your wanting the power go for the Ed and have it mapped, exhaust etc and you be looking at 300+ ponies

Welcome to the forum.

Incase you don't understand what wigit is saying by the term 'k04', he basically means an ED30!

Defnitely get an ED30 if you can afford one - the modification potential is much more on them, than a normal GTI. Your modification plans sound great, and you would see far better gains and bang for your buck from an ED30!

Let us know how you get on with your search for a car!

Edition 30 all day long mate. If you wanted to get 300+ bhp out of a standard GTI you would be looking at spending in excess of 5k. In an Edition 30 you can get that power for £500. If you are planning to get an exhaust etc. you will be looking at 330 bhp easy.

My last car was a 330 bhp ED30 and it was an awesome bit of kit. The amount of 40k motors I took the piss out of was hilarious, all in a little Golf GTI.

Go for the Edition 30 mate  :rolleye: :rolleye:

Guy's selling an ED30 for £15k which is your price range. I know the guy and have sat in the car. It's really nice. If I had more cash, I might've bought it off him.
