Title: Clutch judder on bite
Post by: treesimon on September 23, 2010, 06:56:08 pm
I'm fairly new to the forum so you will have to forgive me if this has been answered before.
I've done a little search and can't find any info relating to a standard edition 30 only faults with mapped cars.

I've notice since having my edition 30 for about a month now that if I hold the car on the bite and ride the clutch I get a judder or ticking/knocking sound. I admitted I don't notice it a lot only really when I'm reversing in to my drive, and am just taking up drive.

The clutch isn't slipping as have tested it out. Sounds like a release bearing sound but obviously not.

Is this normal behave for the gti's ? My car is completely standard with 30k on the clock.

Any advice would be great.

I get the same as this, I would like to know also if the "ticking noise" and slight juddering is a problem...

At least I'm not alone!

What is your car and mileage?

Is it standard?

Hopeful someone will be along soon to say it's normal.

I've never owned a car with a DMF, so it might be a characteristic of one.

Has yours always done it since you have owned it?

Cheers, doesn't seem like to much to worry about at the moment.

I might go back to the dealers to get them to check it out as i've brought it from them with a years warranty and it's still under it's original 3 year warranty to.

If I can get a new clutch and DMF it would be a bonus.

I wuold definitely suggest gettting the ECS insert as an easy and cheap starter that may improve things :happy2:

My edition 30 did it from new, VW even put a new DMF and flywheel in mine and it was exactly the same, it's a feature of the DMF

I remember reading a huge thread on an american site and they all had it too, they fixed it by removing the DMF and fitting a solid item, as said in is thread it's worth fitting the engine mount insert

its a doddle but the car needs to be on axle stands as a minimum

Ok, where's it located?

Is it in the gearbox? Or is it in the gearbox to subframe mount?

Does the OE insert fall out? Press out, etc.

Sorry just trying to get a heads up on it.

Its in the subframe, at the rear of the lower gearbox mount, the insert firms the std bush up, so you remove the exixting bolt, push the insert in and fit new bolt :happy2:

if you do a search I'm sure there's plenty of pics
