Title: Coventry Fly-In - The Vulcan's finest (and possibly last) hour.
Post by: Hedge on September 26, 2010, 11:09:58 pm
Ladies and Gents, not your usual picture thread so I apologise in advance. More an impassioned plea.

Why do I love this aircraft? I guess the answer is it reminds me so much of my car. It drinks fuel, it costs a fortune to run but my God does it entertain and sound good. What more can I say.

So there you have it, the short version. Trust me the long version is even more embarrasing, the idea is to raise the profile of XH558, The Vulcan, and to inform you of her current financial situation.

Have a read of this before you take a look at the pictures from today at Coventry.

Sorry about the Tornado.

There you have it. Potentially the last public display of XH558. Please let that not be the case. If she makes you feel the same way I do then the choice is yours.

I said in another post it flew over my house low level a few weeks back immense noise. There used to one at east fortune but think its gone
When I were a kid we would get sorts of planes flying over our old gaff to test the radar at a test place near Edinburgh airport . Nimrod came in one day low level no gear down skimmed the length of the runway then back into the sky thought it was going to crash . Used to have a pic of a flight crew that had picked my old bt van as a Target and locked on to it in a pretend bombing run up by the black isle area at the start of the first gulf war. Amazing.

Here's a little something for all you Photographers out there.
Over on the Vulcan to the Sky forum they are having a photo competition. It is open to non-members and the idea is you post your photos from 2010 to fit the theme:-
1. photos of XH558
2. photos of any other aircraft
3. photos of the Vulcan Village or other smaller VTTS stands from 2010 events
4. photos of the XH558 ground crew or engineers in action (or on duty at any rate)
5. photographic mishaps /bloomers and humorous photos with captions if possible! (captions to be taken into account when judging)

Rules here and they are pretty strict.

Basically you buy a token for £5.58 which allows you to enter 1 picture. The more you buy the more you can enter. :happy2: :happy2:

Lets keep the old girl flying  :congrats:

Not quite at the end of the month yet but there is some momentum on other sites.

From Pistonheads. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=22661

Out of the Pistonheads thread I have compiled some of her greatest moments.

Yeovilton - hear the old girl howl.

Must get the video I took of her from Farnborough up. Will do so tonight... I was standing at the foot of the runway and she passed directly overhead.

One of the members of the Vulcan to the Sky Club is also a very talented illustrator and responsible for all the illustrations in the Vulcan Ventures children books.

This is definitely one of the saddest things I have seen in a long time and most definitely not what we want to see happen to the old girl.

Does this mean that we did it?
I hope so!  :jumping:

Update to my previous one - more details on the website, here's the key excerpt:

Quote
the Trust has sufficient liquidity to continue to trade, and accordingly the notices to our employees have been rescinded.

If you were waiting for it to become clear whether a donation to XH558 would be worthwhile, now is your moment. We have achieved a huge amount in the last few days, and the Board is now confident that we can move forward to a successful 2011. We do need to keep up the donation momentum all the way through to Sunday 31st October, so please take that step and make a donation, join thousands of others, and help ensure we break through our target by Sunday evening.

So good news, but not completely in the clear just yet. Now's the time to donate if you haven't already! So in the words, of Starsky, or Hutch...

Do it! Do it!

From my understanding the first hurdle were the Trustees who met on Thursday. They had the power to wrap up the whole shooting match. As they have seen viable funding then it will be allowed to continue.

Still needs £75k before the end of the month  :scared:
