I have only recently picked up my Gti so have been closely monitoring things just so as I get familiar with how it works etc and have suspected for a little while that the mpg on the trip computer was not being calculated correctly.
It currently shows about 360 miles completed with 15 remaining and that was from a full tank (50 litres if I've read up correctly) but the trip computer only shows the average mpg of 28.something. By my calculations 50 litres is pretty much 11 gallons so 375/11 = 34 mpg. I re-set the number 2 figures when I filled up the tank so its not carried anything over.
Is there a way of refreshing/re-setting the trip computer like a hard or factory reset so as it picks up on the true mpg? Has anyone else come across a similar problem?
Thanks in advance

the number "2" figure shows your current mpg, what does your number "1" say on mpg?

Computer 1 is short journeys, computer 2 is over a long period of time. Within both computers are the current MPG, overall journey MPG and other things.

Number 2 is the longer trip one which doesn't re set every journey, you have to re set it manually. This is the one I'm referring to, and its the average mpg, which I'd assume would be the average for the tank if I reset it up filling up.

Would be useful to know also, incase you wanted the mpg of a certain trip.

The GTI has a 55 litre tank btw.

You have three mpg figures - current calculated mpg, average mpg of current journey (resets after two hours of no driving), and average lifetime mpg (is manually reset).
As far as I can tell, the estimated fuel range is based on the average mpg of the current journey. As an example, let's say I do some hard driving and the average mpg is something like 20mpg. Then let's say I fill up the tank. The range may be something like 240 miles. Let's say that I then drive like a granny, average 40mpg. The range will now increase to 320 miles, despite the fact that I've already driven say 20 miles.
