Have been looking into getting one of these, will still be keeping my golf if all goes well too
Just seeing if anyone has any previous experiences with day to day running , servicing reliability and tuning ?
I have zero experience as I've always been into my vag cars and so has all my friends so any info will be a great help :happy2:
Also is there anything similar to vag com for the Mitsubishi ?
Really looking into getting a grey one like this

My brother inlaw had the fq300,expensive to run daily, would only recommend as weekend track car
Had a few warranty issues with it,make sure you get one with some
The power is awesome, car is so light, chuck round corners etc,not as loud as a scooby equivalent
Would also be good to have a specialist local to where you live for maintenance, modding etc

I had an Evo II so the only relevant point I can make is that you will be making your local petrol station very happy! Great cars , but they cost sooo much to keep on the road. You really must own one at least once though , so if you can afford it , do it!
For more info , browse the MLR (Mitsubishi lancer register) forums here http://www.lancerregister.com/index.php , its a great club , with very helpful members.

Thanks guys :happy2:
Have signed up to mlr and just awaiting activation
Anyone know if they do a vagcom style system ?
-
you might want to move this tiopic to the random section.
i had a mate with the evo X FQ300. i started a thread a while back with my experience. the engine needed to be revved and use the gears to provide power. didnt pull well in the higher gears from low rpm
the handling however made the mk5 chassis seem numb, and mine was running coilovers, ARBs, and walk.
it loved to drift, the brakes were excellent, and they modify very very well.

My mate has just bought an 8 MR340 and its pretty quick, at the moment its not got the best map on it so wasn't too impressed with my first outing in it, but we're going to get it mapped on Saturday so im sure my view of it will change then!
Really nice interior, grips really well and looks good too!

Cheers guys :happy2:
Hopefully I can work it so I can keep my golf and also get an evo
I do realise that in a straight line my car will be quicker (initially) but it is a car I have always wanted and the grip and tuning potential are a big lure to me :driver:
Hopefully I CAN work it to keep the golf cos I would hate to get the evo and always have that regret of selling the golf :sad1:

That will be a quality line up!!!! E.K will be ripped up! Same prob as the vag tho with havin sh*te clutches unless your in the hks.
-
Ooooooooh Evo
Just don't buy a 4 lol as we have experiences of 4's with 4,5 and 6 engines in it and its still brokie Eh stevie :signLOL:

A £4k evo4 that owes him £12k, maybe just a bad egg. Unluckiest boy in the world. Do your sums Rab and get one bought! Love them.

evo 8, one of the most expensive bit is the AYC, there is a valve/ecu that control it, you need to make sure thats not gone/going.
Drive slowly in circles listen for a wearing noise, make sure the gravel/snow/tarmac lights dont all stay on.
i have been looking onto these too, have you looked around http://www.lancerregister.com/index.php
Im looking for an 8 too.

Cheers bud :happy2:

worked for mitsi for 10 years so all i will say is service history make sure its had all the oils done and the ayc one done too plus have a look under it and check for any signs on it being on a jig :surprised: you would be shocked to see how many cars we had on ramps that had been on a jig but had no record of damage on a hpi check :surprised:.It was always the driver that ran out of skill and never the car :driver: we had one guy in a 7 have us fit something that turned all the things that help the car stay on the road ie be able to turn traction control off and he lost it 3 days later :driver: going over bridge did a bit of this :driver:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fd122%2Fmat138l%2F860368e0.jpg&hash=67f00b5afc6fb76ac52a2f66ba3d96df998f73f0)
and lost it and hit a bus :surprised: and ripped the front end off :scared: he fixed it and sold it about 6 months later and the new owner will never know :scared: so check check and double check for any signs of damage if you can but they are awesome cars :driver:

I've been looking at getting a Vlll FQ MR340. Always wanted one but the leon is so cheap to run i think the running costs of the Evo concern me alittle :scared:
A friend had the FQ400 and after a year it ruined him financially £££'s.
I can just pass another mates Vll 340 but in the twisties he leaves me for dead.
It would be my daily but i do very low mileage.

My friend has got an evo 9 fq360 by hks run out model and has had it nearly 3 years with no problems although he suspects the clutch will need replaced soon as they are very week as standard. He uses it as a family/everyday car and gets the proper servicing. He had an evo 8 fq260 before it which he owned for 3 years and all it needed was brakes and a clutch in the end.
I think you will be surprised of the pace of the evo compared to your golf, the power is more manageable and it uses it better than most cars with similar bhp.
