Title: Will 15"/16" wheels fit over standard brakes?

I've done a bit of searching but haven't found the answer.

I'm after a 2nd hand set of standard golf wheels either 15 or 16 inch for the winter, possibly for winter tyres & definitely so I can get my Monza II's refurbished.

As the Gti has bigger front discs (312mm) than the poverty spec cars (288mm I think), will the brakes fit behind 15/16" wheels?

Any help anyone can give would be great

16s definitely. 15s, I doubt it...

Bugger!! not what I wanted to hear.

I have the possibility of getting some 15" alloys for a decent price, but I'll have to look out for a set of 16's.
