Hello everyone
As we have learnt today luckily just missing a big rock the reverse sensors only work when the car is physically in reverse.
Do not put the car in neutral and roll backwards because you wont here a beep beep you will just hear a bit crunch... :scared:
Dont say I didnt remind you :indifferent:

Mike, perhaps the real reminder should be that you never allow the car to coast or roll when it isnt actually in a gear!

Yes. I agree. But the scenario under which this happened is acceptable.
The parking spot itself was on a heavy slope. And we wanted to get the boot as close to the wall behind it due to various amounts of expensive goods in the boot. In South Africa this is needed.
We slowly allowed the car to roll backwards until I saw an empending rock on the right back wheel yelling to my dad to stop. He stopped and to our surpise found the back bumper to be a few cm from the wall. My father only drives this car maybe once a week at max and has not driven it for months before this with exception of the one or two spirited drives he has had on his own.
Hence why I posted this to remind those drivers that have forgotten about this.

But even if "rolling" backwards like that, you can still be in reverse gear, and just let it creep backwards by gently releasing the brake pedal.

Yes but unfortunately not everyone does that. Much like not everyone agrees that Open grilles offer benefits for GTi's other than the cosmetic appearance they have.
Use or dont use it. But for all I know it may stop somebody from just rolling backwards expecting a beep that never comes.
