MG ZS 180 2.5V6!!!
anyone been in or driven one??? a guy in work has just offered one to me for £1000 as he is leaving the army and emigrating to canada.
Thought it could be a cheap track slag for a while. it has full mot and tax and new tyres so should be fine on consumables.
not driven it yet, but interested to see what people think it would be like on track out of the box with no mods. dont want to buy iut and throw another 1000 in mods

No spares!!!
-
spares arent an issue. Not many old cars use genuine marque spares anyway. all the motorfactors can get parts in for these
-
Cam belts are a pig to change & there are 2 of them.

finding bits like wings and bonnets can be a bugger

Take 'em off and run "naked"

Yes I agree Motor Factors will have the generic stuff but when it comes to something more serious, your screwed.
I know its not the same but everybody I know who had an MGF had a complete nightmare.
Head Gaskets primarily but roofs as well.
Apparently a lot of stuff was taken from the Metro including the front hubs, obviously without the drive shafts. So when the Chinese made their version they copied it exactly, including the spline through the hub for the drive shaft! Which wasn't needed!
My mate had 3 head gaskets all under warranty within a year! sh*t springs to mind.
What about a VW Golf 1,2,3,4 as a track day car?
Bora, Beetle?
Anything but...............!
Sorry I am not biased, well maybe a little towards VW, but just going on family and friends experiences!

I've just got rid of the girlfriends MG TF, gave no end of trouble!
-
to be honest, i wasnt even looking for one.
he just said i could have it for a grand, and i thought it could be nice to have a track slag again. to be fair its only a grand, so if it blows up i would just sell the interior and alloys to some sad git in a rover somewhere and scrap it
my question is actually aimed more at how the car handles on a track and if it would be any good out of the box

Ah ok, I am led to believe they are not bad.
Fairly quick, my mates a bit of a bullsh*tter but apparently you can get them chipped and a few other bits to get it to 250bhp?
Offer him £500 and yes would be a bit of fun.
