Didn't see that one coming!
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/page.php?xPage=brand_revo.html
Sorry if this is a repost, I checked and couldn't seem to find anything on this!
-
About time if you ask me
-
ooops i always thought they were
-
Wonder what APR will think of that? Good decision by Jim and the gang though.. :happy2:
-
I wonder if there doing any offers! Haha maybe they will notice this post and give the 1st 15 replys free revo haahah
-
wonder if they will still offer apr as well
-
Interesting. Didn't see that one coming either but its good for us consumers as we have a choice when we go to Awesome.
Alex
-
wonder if they will still offer apr as well
I don't see many mentions of APR there.
-
Its a strange one thats for sure, they were officially APR Europe at one point :stupid:
-
indeed  cant imagine they would run both
just great, wonder how the warranty etc works for people who do have APR already fitted!
-
Hmm bit dodgy I say considering how attached they are to APR in USA.
Surprised Revo have done this deal and made them a dealer.
-
.
JKM are dealers for both APR and Revo (and also Bluefin) and there doesn't appear to be a conflict.
However, I thought that Awesome were virtually the UK's main APR dealership and enjoyed a particularly close relationship. Unofficially, the word on the street is that there is a history of shall we diplomatically say 'rivalry' between APR and Revo and this might raise questions. However, Awesome are free to sell whoever's products they prefer.
Seeing how well Awesome are established, I'd say that this latest appointment is another feather in Revo's cap as well as potentially increasing Awesome's business. The only ones to potentially lose are APR.
-
Their website does seem to have dropped APR products all together though - and only last week they were heavily advertising the price reductions on their maps.

....No doubt that either of the two rivals APR and Revo, would prefer for purely commercial reasons that the other's products are dropped! Such is the world of competitive business.
For my part, I prefer Revo but APR would probably be my second choice.
-
Now that is interesting. APR Europe which operated out if same site as awesome has been dissolved too!!
So no conflict at all now! Massive REVO banner too!
Why have they not made an announcement tho??
Hope JKM don't drop Revo and become the new main APR agent!!
-
It's one of those things that you're never going to get a genuine answer on, unless Jim wants to tell you it.
My guess? APR Europe has been offshored to Germany in Oettinger's former HQ, making Awesome redundant. Nice bit of business that buying Oettinger, as that name is everything to the Germans & wider Europe and a big market.
APR isn't selling in the UK and Awesome have been in a handcuffed deal watching REVO sell hand over fist through every other tuner. To survive, they've got to offer choice.
-

....I haven't talked to JKM about it but somehow I doubt very much this would happen.
It's looking as if APR may have fallen out of bed with Awesome and so all APR operations under that roof in Manchester will have gone the same way out the door. At the moment we simply don't know if matters are acrimonious or amicable.... As usual in the early stages of any divorce proceedings.

....Mike, I think you've probably hit the nail on the head! :happy2:

Just spoke to a good friend of mine at Awesome, basically he said they felt they weren't gettin the full back-up they needed when issues with software etc came about, so all ties have been split.
If this is the full story only the people in the know will ever know
-
Becoming just a Revo dealer isn't offering much choice tho is it.
I wonder if APR are planning to te Market as Oettinger in the UK on a bigger scale!
-
Probably the first hit in an attempt to hurt APR, start selling their main rival, Lee?
I imagine they'll bring in a lot more choice in time, if they could somehow go back to the ethos of the old School Lane days, they might have a chance.
-

A mate of mine at Awesome also told me that...think I may switch to Revo soon to see what it's like!

Just Been on SCN! They've removed every thread re APR from their section it seems! Wow.
This could get very very bitchy with handbags I think :signLOL:

cant wait! :popcornsoda:
-
I asked Zboyd if he knew anything and he said that as of yesterday they have cut all ties with APR and will be publishing a statement soon and having an open day at Awesome and all the guys from Revo will be there.
Maybe Arin@APR will come out of the woodwork and explain, i was talking to him yesterday about a k04 on the mk6 tsi until the thread got closed
-
I wonder where customers with APR maps that they have continual intermittent issues with stand now?
-
Didn't see that one coming, good news :surprised: :happy2:
-
I just spoke to Awesome and, they said that they've parted company as there was software issues that APR couldn't assist them in resolving! And as Awesome were the main supplier in UK everyone else that supplies APR is also parting company and being supplied with Revo!
Awesome also told me that there should be an amnesty where if your new (I think) to APR they will switch you over for free to Revo!
I also spoke to JKM and, they are waiting on confirmation from APR on the situation.....
-

I've just spoken to Awesome again and, they have informed me that anyone with APR they will switch you over to Revo free of charge. It's a deal they've put together with Revo apparently! They said to me you just need proof of purchase of your APR map and they'll swap you over! Just keep an eye on the Awesome forum for any updates as to when this will start! And, it will only last a month and, this deal is redeamable Awesome and not the dealer you got you APR from!

I can only hope that applies to all of us even if it was years ago.....
doubt it but can hope, if so REVO here I come....... :signLOL:
-
I know, Joe! And I don't mind the drive up to Manchester as they're a great bunch up there and they look after u! Will have a nice drive up there in my last APR experience and a blast back in my new Revo'd 30 :happy2:
-
I think it applies to everyone but, you just need proof of purchase!
-
Just to clarify a couple of things mentioned above :happy2:
JKM intend to continue supplying REVO, Superchips/Bluefin and APR software & hardware products.
APR USA have been in contact with various UK dealerships today (JKM etc) and are intending to continue supplying Hardware and software products to the UK marketplace. Full details and pricing to be confirmed shortly.
With regards to where existing customers stand with warrantees for their APR software and hardware products, I am sorry but we do not know currently as this is a legacy that APR Europe will have to manage with APR USA.
As things become clearer over the next few days/weeks we will aim to update our website.
-
....and a potential new product review REVO vs APR side by side :surprised:
-
Well it looks like this has made it easy for me to choose which remap to go for
-
now all awesome need to do, is drop the scene tax off of their proices and its win win for everyone
-
Its always been Revo for me :P
Even got it on the Touran, which there were problems and they guys altered the existing cod rather than load new code - cant complain about the service at all.
so from what I can see its a good move from Awesome as they have a great reputation.
-

Heard the same when I spoke to them earlier. The amnesty is a great idea, it shows respect for the existing customers and offers options for us with APR remaps. :happy2:
I'm sure that the dust will take a while to settle after such a long time with APR, but business is business and in these times each company has to do what's best for themselves and their customer base. Let's hope that whatever happens we get some good deals!!! I'll drink to that!! :drinking:
-
Awesome will be making a statement tomorrow so please bare with us, this decision was not taken lightly and was made with all of our customers in mind. I will try to answer your questions as best as possible in relation to our future plans and yes we will be looking after all our customers
-
Good on you Mark and :congrats: on going Revo

thank Mark , thats appreciated :happy2:

Wow, and less than a couple of weeks after going with APR Stage one :(
To be honest I would like find out what the warrentee situation was reguarding the software, I know it's rare that issues arrise. I would rather have a map that was supported by the producer, or their agents, on my car than not!
If JKM can give a clarification as to where APR stands when they know more please. Also if they would, for people that just got APR, swap for Revo if they decide not to not support their software in the UK - I would be happy to pay the difference to get the piece of mind if anything should go wrong.
It's a shame really as I really do like the map.
-
Recently went APR StgII myself & see no reason to change at the moment. The map suits my car perfectly & like the fact I can switch programs via cruise. Lack of UK support could be an issue but software issues are rare once the map is on the car and mine doesn't go to the stealers so they wouldn't get chance to overwrite the code back to standard!!
-
agree with ady, I love the APR software and would miss the ability to switch using the cc stalk.
Its reliable but thats not the point we need backup should something go wrong , as well as getting software updates if there are any.
So its irrelevant how good it is , i need (and paid for!) the backup of the supplier as that was one of the major decision points.

I'm thinking, with new engine mounts and now a decent map at last. You might break the 18 second barrier at the pod. :P
-
That was the reason I got apr on my old seat cupra r was having awesome back it up but to be honest so many dealers do Revo and the guys at Revo Uk are a great bunch of guys i am so happy with the software and the support. Go. Revo guys you will enjoy it

Where's this announcement?
-
Its all over their website Mike! Hmmm..... i'm tempted by the free trial thats for sure!
-
Where?
I was expecting some background story as to what/why/when??
-
This is what Awesome have posted on their FB page:
As Directors of Awesome we decided that we better produce a formal statement regarding the introduction of REVO TECHNIK to our product line.
For nearly 10 years, Awesome have been responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of all ...APR software and hardware products in the UK. Over a number of years, Awesome have suffered due to 'internal politics' at APR and we have decided to terminate our business relations. As from 3 PM on Tuesday 12th October 2010, Awesome terminated its partnership with APR LLC and signed contracts with Revo Technik as an approved dealer.
As we have many loyal customers who have chosen APR as the preferred product, we want to give these people our continued support.
As it will now be impossible for Awesome to flash APR software to any vehicle, an agreement has been reached with our new partners REVO to allow a 28 Day Amnesty starting Monday the 18th of October. This will allow any existing APR software equipped vehicle to be re flashed to REVO software with no charge. It does not matter how long the car has had APR software fitted, as long as the purchase invoice can be produced. The only cars that this will not apply to is the older chip change vehicles. The FREE conversion to REVO will only allow single programs and if an SPS unit is required, that will be an added cost. These amnesty burns can only be carried out at Awesome and any questions regarding the Amnesty will be answered by our sales staff.
Finally, all of us here at Awesome are looking forward to working closely with everyone at REVO and we have been promised some VERY exciting products are in the pipeline especially some totally new 1.8T software to blow you away. Watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where?
I was expecting some background story as to what/why/when??
Big Revo logo all over the home page.... and yes i agree, I would have thought they would be the ones telling us about it, not the other way round!
-
I know everyone likes the REVO product me included but I fail to see why everyone here thinks this is a good thing. Surely this has all but removed the sole biggest element of competition from the market place meaning that REVO will be able to keep their prices 'bouyant'.
This combined with the free offer of replacement software is almost an attempt at 'domination' of the software market in the UK. Again this isn't good for the consumer.
I hope JKM will pick up the mantle and actively supply the APR product into the market place. Yes it is expensive but the quaility and R&D is what you pay for.
-
I agree I dont think its a good thing for the market, but as a previous customer I forced to go REVO in the absence of a local APR supplier for support.
-
I hope that too. As I said I'm more than happy with the APR map now on my car, my issue is with it being supported down the line when/if I have a problem that needs sorting. If APR are still being supported then I have no problem with the map on my car, but if they are not, and as I'm a new customer I would like the piece of mind to change to a supported map just incase I have issues.
I totally agree that this is a bad thing for customers in general, and will do nothing to put downward pressure on prices if REVO see themselves as the only premium product on the UK market.
-
i recently got revo and asked why MK5 gti prices havent dropped, and was told as its still a good seller, I can only imagine now they have more share of the market things getting worse.
as you can see mk5 gti untouched

I agree Stu, I think its a real shame. APR have never been hugely popular in this country but its just some more competition thats been taken away. Revo are certainly heading for market domination, and im not sure thats a great thing..

Ps we all know that REVO s/w is not without it's problems.................... for example - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=162282.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=162282.0)

fook me didn't see that one coming

We are aware that no software supplier is without problems, but its about how the problems are resolved and dealt with, if anybody would like to discuss our reasons why in more depth, we will make ourselves available to individuals who would like to visit us here at Awesome and we will be honest and open about the situation, come and have a chat and we will certainly get you an Awesome brew and attempt to answer as best as we can.
we will also be holding an open day here with Revo within the next 30 days where Awesome and the Revo crew will be available to talk to all of our customers both old and new and we will be flashing any cars with APR software to Revo software FOC on that day and also offering new customers the chance to come along and sample the software being offered.

will 100% come over for the open day to say hi :happy2:
-
Its my pleasure, we are here to help in anyway we can
-
I'm sure APR will still be around in one way or another.
It's also a chance for GIAC/SC-BF/AMD/CC to gain more customers as i doubt all those APR customers would jump over to REVO.

Agreed, and im a revo user. I hope APR come back to the UK properly or in the form of Oettinger. You certainly cannot deny that APRs research and development center is impressive and they do know their stuff.

Hello all!
Just wanted to say a big thanks for all the support you guys have given us, it does mean a lot. This wasn't an easy decision to make For Mark and Jim (And us!!!)
We appreciate all coments, good and bad, as this is how we will grow and make things better for all.
Don't hesitate to give me or any of the guys a call if you have any concerns.
Best wishes,
Dean
P.S. Hey Robin, long time no speak, give me a call sometime.
-

I did but i missed it too much!

I am sure Awesome will represent the Revo software and programming with all the same professionalism that they gave to APR ....
Times change and businesses need to accomodate suppliers that they feel they can rely on to give them the best of service ... as Forge are suppliers to Awesome we only want the best resellers to representing our products ...Awesome have always done this ... I am sure this decison wasnt taken lightly believe me Mark & Jim and the boys will not be wanting to be on all the forums ...taking calls from customers answering questions all about Revo & Apr ...they would rather be doing what they do best ... serving the VAG community ....
I am sure JKM will also continue to offer great service to the APR customers who still need back up and product support now Awesome have made the change ..... onwards and upwards for all I say
-
So Awesome are now offering 0% APR...
...I'll get me coat.. :signLOL:

refurbed wheels and a drop first!

....A couple of years ago a BIALI Boy mate of mine had a lot of issues with a Revo map on his Mk4 R32 and they didn't get resolved satisfactorily IIRC. However, to be fair that's the only case I know of and it may have finally got resolved (he sold the car). So check it all out carefully, Joe.
-
Have spoken to Awesome last week about this as I was unaware of this 'big' decision.
I for one was shocked having been to Awesome for great development work with Jim and APR.
My MKIV was used for their first APR stage 2 UK software development cars before going onto Stage 3+
APR must surely recognise the issues surrounding this and it would be nice for them to give existing customers who use the forums and give them reassurance of back up for their products. A lead APR agent will definately be needed to contine servicing and development in the UK.
Their switcheable cruise facility was one of the key reasons they were recognised as well as their extensive R&D for their hardware products such as Stage 3 kits for MK5 & 6 Golfs. A real shame if this is lost....I'll vouch for that
Following on from my APR Stage 2 Ed 30 I now have a very well sorted 200+bhp KJet!, old school, MK2 16V for track shortly to be featured in VW Driver but in the future will happily go back to a mapped new car such as the MK6 and APR will always be my choice...I hope APR respond positively to this.
I'm sure Awesome will do well with Revo as there are alot of customers on this forum.
-
thanks to the Awesome GTI guys today, Im now running REVO :pomppomp:
-
And, what do you think?
-
As above your thoughts John
-
too early to call really but its very different so far...
even small things like idle quality / the way it revs 'feel' different and almost lightened if that makes sense.
Im not sure how but it seems to spool earlier but doesnt ramp as hard.
full review to follow :happy2:

I thought exactly that when I drove VW Racing's car running Revo when I visited them.....funnily they were mightly impressed with the APR software on my car.
-
no dyno results , just logged on the road today by the guys.
to be honest I want to tweak with VCDS myself :happy2:
I always did and still consider APR software great, so its good to be able to do a back to back comparison with REVO.

I went down to Awesome and got my APR Stage 1 swapped to Revo, and the difference is amazing, the car is definately a lot more powerful and runs smoother, the car feels right - if that makes sense. Really glad I swapped only shame is need an SPS to switch it.
