My key is looking really tatty, as I don't have a spare and I just wanted to know if I can buy a new shell for it? (with the 3 buttons) or do you need to buy a complete key with the electronics and the blade?
I have seen a real nice Passat key on eBay and I wondered if it would work on the golf? Are there any other options? i.e. different keys or cases?
Has anyone here....
A) Got a different style key to the original?
B) Refurb'd their key using new plastics?
If so, Where from? and How much? :ashamed:

OSIR do one, around £20-25 iirc.

Carlo I have bought 2 off ebay now I got the first one for £28 but it had been used so the immobilizer wouldn't code in so just changed the shell for my old one and I now have a brand new looking one, but I have also bought a brand new never used key for £10 so once I have this Ill be back to 2 brand new keys :happy2:
If you get one off ebay just remember if its not brand new i.e its been used on another car it cannot be coded to be used on your car, but you can take them to bits and transfer the small transponder from your old one to the new one to make it work.

Weston, are these only available from the U.S?
Darren, are there fake keys on eBay mate? Would this be any good if I swap the parts over?

I think so, unless these are the same.

I gave the key I got off ebay + a blank key bit and my car + £70 and they coded and cut the key...

I've recently bought one of these:

A little bit fiddly, but still swapped in less than 5 mins - complete instructions were included and it is just like the original.
Worth a go....

Ed sometime you can get keys that have not been coded to a car in which case it can be coded fine but if it has the Vin number registered on the key from another car it cannot be recoded.
Carlo yes that looks fine mate just strip it down and change it over.

the only reason i though it had been coded was the fact it was cut for use on another car! meh, who knows
