Title: ED30 noisy tickover

My wifes ED30 on tickover has a sound like someone tapping a bell...it seems to be coming from the left hand side of the engine as you look under the bonnet..it seems to be somewhere by the alternator but i cannot be sure..i have never heard another ED30 or GTI on tickover so not sure if normal or not..the car runs like dream...the cambelt, tensioners and water pump were changed 3000 niles ago back in feb by Audi dealearship..any ideas please.

Mine (not an Ed 30) was similar and I've just got it back from having the water pump, cambelt, pulleys and tensioners etc.. replaced.

I wonder if they didn't actually replace the waterpump or if it is faulty?

Although the chirp on mine was more pronounced.

did the sound change at all after the belt change?
worse when cold

The noise is there whether the engine is hot or cold.....i honestly could not tell you if the the noise was there before the cambelt etc was changed.

Mine only made the noise when cold and then soon disappeared, so perhaps it is something different.

cam belt tensioner.

just had mine sorted. its a real pain in the arse!

its also covered under warranty if your concerned  :happy2:
