Title: Cambelt change - Where in the Herts Beds Bucks area
Post by: S2 Ant on October 18, 2010, 11:50:13 am
Hi all, following on from a good day at JKM's RR session at the weekend and discovering the chirp from under my bonnet is a bit more of a pressing issue than i had realised, i'm wanting to find somewhere in my area (within reasonable driving distance is also fine, i dont mind a bit of a travel to get the car to a known reliable place with good rep on these cars) to get the job done.

Any one in the Herts / Beds / Bucks kind of area that can recommend anyone? I've had a look around for guides on the job and i've done plenty of cambelts before on various cars, but TBH its the wrong time of year to be doing something outside in this weather and we're moving home in 2 weeks so have got enough on as it is.

Oh and ideas on a reasonable price to pay for this as well please.... from a quick look it sounds like £200-£300 for genuine bits and labour is the ballpark figure

Any pointers much appreciated

Had mine done a week ago at VWsawston, they had same deal as above^^ but I got new waterpump aswell for £399 all in!
Another VW dealer near me wanted over £500 just for cambelt change - no waterpump   :stupid:

VW Wayside in St Albans have a £299 deal for Cambelt only. Waterpump was a further £70 I think.

Yes thanks Alex, however I can get it cheaper via a dealership by the looks of things, just need to spend half hour sorting it out when i get a chance.

I went to see Alex at BDM the other day and although he wasn't working on my car the workshop is very clean and he definately knows what he is talking about.

Otherwise how about Browns Motorsport in Thame, Oxon.

I use them for everything and all my friends do too.

My wifes Touran Tdi Sport my ED30 and my mates EVO 6.

Shaun is an ex VW mechanic who went it alone about 6-12 months ago.

Always loads of exotic in there too.

Rally cars, classic cars, kit cars and I believe he is a Noble service agent now too.
