As the winter is coming I'm wanting it for the window rubbers to prevent freezing, the Rocco has frameless window doors so if they get frozen you can't get in LOL
-
haha ya but would you need to on a car as new as yours? So its just a rubber lubricant?

Any car can freeze up if its cold enough, age has nothing to do with it, the golf was nearly impossible to get in one or two days last year, I used gummy pflege too but it was just too cold, this VW stuff has a real low freezing point,on a side point it was developed for NASA apparently
-
id better get some for the TT then :surprised:
-
Worse thing is i actually bought some before ( ex rover branded ), i didnt know it was this expensive normally as the bloke on eBay was selling them for £2.99 with delivery  , i used it like it was £2.99 too LOL, i now have non and have found out its over £30 for about 20grams
-
Have you got a part number for that and how long does that small bottle normally last?

G 052 172 A1 - Special Lubricant
It will last quite a while as a small bit goes a long way

I though a key was all thats needed to get in your car :signLOL:

Not at all, it got so cold a few nights last year i couldnt get in the ED30 as the rubber had frozen up, so im taking precautions with the R, especially as its glass and no frame

Still not cheap, but have you tried G 052 172 A2 - the same stuff, but 100ml at £35ish?

Pass.
Can you not ask the stealer or TPS to order them both in. Then you could tell by weight if the larger one is full of air! Anyway, think there is a legal requirement for them to actually have the said volume inside the tin or bottle - usually a lower-case e mark.

What about trying an alternative; Einszett Rubber Care Gummi Pflege
I've never tried it but some folk on detailing world appear to rate it - I'm sure you frequent that site

We had -12°C down here last winter and normal car doors were sticking shut!

!
I am and it does by all accounts, its used for a few things like stopping squeaks, leaks etc, its a known fix for leaking EOS roof seal apparently ?!
-
I've tried all sorts on the S3 to stop the door seals squeaking/creaking I'd happily pay 35quid to stop it

Well this may be the stuff, not sure how to apply it to be honest, just using my finger i reckon, apparently it gets slightly soaked into the rubber and lasts ages, not sure what its like when on your paint (i.e the rubber you applied it to touches your painted door frame), it wont harm paint as its very safe, its just hard to remove from what i have read LOL

Some info here

Dunno i've seen some strange things arrive in the post :signLOL:
-
Well, now the weather's here, does it work? I ask because all my doors are frozen shut every morning and it's doing my nut in! :rolleye:
Reckon I might be able to lube the little rubber covered pins on my parcel shelf with it, too, as they squeak like a bastid.
-
It does indeed :happy2:
-
I doubt it works as well as Blue's NASA lube, but I'm using the small bottles of silicon oil that come with motorcycle helmets (Arai & Shoei) on the seals.
-
There's some Krytox grease on ebay for around 14 quid that might be worth a punt, but who knows how long it will take to arrive!
-
I manage to get some of the Rover version of Krytox on eBay for £25 for about 25 bottles

Does this stuff have a shelf life? Most lubricants do.
-
According to the instructions there is no shelf life :happy2:

IMO it may be prudent to buy the pucka VW stuff, rather than some stuff from the bay that you can't verify the history of. I will keep in the house too, nice and dry.
Taken from Shell Dupont website.
Opened containers could be contaminated with moisture or
dirt and should be used with caution if their storage history is
unknown. If containers of Krytox® lubricants are clean,
uncontaminated, and have been stored so that oil loss is
minimized, they are safe for use because the oil and
thickener do not degrade over time.
cheers Blue for looking at your bottles though. i don't think we have seen the last of the bad weather, and will start the rubber conditioning process soon. TBH I only had one instance at work, where the temp was low, and the door stuck slightly.
:happy2:

I do use the proper stuff on my rubbers, the cheap ebay stuff goes on the wifes and on my boot rubbers etc, the important rubbers for the scirocco are around the window area. On another note its not just for winter, it eliminates rubber noises and conditions the seals, VW use if a lot for the leaks and squeaks on the EOS roof apparently.
