Title: Buy new headunit or get an iPod adaptor? Help please!
Post by: Matthew. on October 20, 2010, 12:21:13 am
Hi guys, as above the standard RCD300 in the car at then min just isn't up to task. Now I can't decide wether to swap the HU for the mp3 RCD300 (I assume it's a straight swap) and are on eBay for less than £100 or find an adaptor to connect my iphone4 (assuming there is an adaptor for the 2005 RCD300) and find someone to help fit?

Any advise would be great!

Matt

There is an ipod cable available from VW. However, it's very expensive, doesn't charge your unit (unless it's an early ipod/phone) and has only rudimentary control from the head unit. A better option is to forgo the RCD300 & go for the RCD510 sat nav. They can be had from forum members, install easily and add a world of functionality to your Golf. SD card compatability and an on board hard drive (20Gb avaiable space, 10 more used by the nav) make for an easy way to carry a significant chunk of music with you. No leads, no clunky interface, and sat nav as a bonus. If you have a multifunction wheel & highline dash there is the possibility of control from the wheel. Plus, you can add a phone kit at a later date that interfaces with the touchscreen 510 unit. I did, and the 510 is easily the best thing I did to my Golf. Plus if I change, I can remove & refit it in the next one! :happy2:

Totally agree with the above. i have the VW adaptor fitted to my RCD300 and it really is a waste of time. I would go for the RCD510 if funds allow.

I got a Kenwoo double din DVD unit and iPod adapter for just over £200.

Also bought the Bluetooth unit so everything is operated from the HU and all came to sub £250.
