Thanks people. There will be no "moar" for the now. No offence but i am building it for myself and dont want any off the negativity that comes with a build. Oil and filter change today thats the only mods this week.

We're all building our cars to our own specifications - otherwise they'd all be identical!

Doesn't matter what you do, there'll always be someone who doesn't like what you do etc.

Depending on how deep your pockets are stealth. Thanks Ron thought about the black grill but its all about the go for me just now...our town is riddled with blue oval boys who take things far to seriously so i am hoping to appear with it and go straight to the top.  Stevie.

A few weeks for the engine, valve train is gunked up bad (as they all are) so need to get that all cleaned up, waiting on a few seals arriving also. Going to see how the g.box goes i think, not sure where to go if i did decide to build the box.  :happy2: Stevie.

Hi mate, I will be going this way this year so got a few questions you can pm me if you like.

Who is doing the build for you?

Which kit you using? ATP?

What were the problems with BSH? as I was going to go for their kit

Who advised you on what piston & rods to get? and anything else needed?

How much are they charging you to fit the parts?

How much did all the bits cost before fitting?

Sorry for all the questions  Just want to get things right before I start getting all the parts etc
Title: Re: s3dubbin's Audi **New Pic Content inside**
Post by: s3dubbin on January 23, 2012, 09:18:58 am
The build is being done at home Phil by Allan Fulton.
I will be using the ATP gtx kit - quicker spool.
BSH messed me around massively, 5months I waited then started to panic about my money so got a refund. Think I heard three different excuses from them (maybe genuine I dont know).
Everthing uprated I have ordered from the USA...so much cheaper inc import. Speak to IE mate they are sh*t hot and mail back quick.
As for price of parts I havnt a clue I would need to sit and work it out, its all been needed so I have just bought it. A lot more than expected for seals and gaskets!
Hardest bits are done now so its onto the delicate parts.

Any more questions just ask. Cheers!

I'm hoping for 501 Ron.  Little important finishing parts will arrive from BdmAlex on wednesday. Turbo hasnt been ordered yet but wont take long to arrive once ordered. At this rate shouldnt take too long before its built, get another big blast at it this week. Cheers, Stevie.

He did blow that car up a while ago

Yes he did, but it wasn't exactly unexpected and more a test to see what the standard internals would take. When just shy of 320.... Kabooooooooooom!!!!

He then had the plans already in place for BT and forged bottom end and this is the result...... So far!!!

The metal pipework is all custom, intake, dv, downpipe and charge pipe. I have quite a few uprated silicone hoses, the important high pressure ones. I should take a pic of all the plastic tagged bags, bloody hell!  :scared:

Said I would never do a thread aswell but just thought i would share and can always look back keep myself right. The wellies are seriously needed! -4.c and snowing! My car had done 41k miles before the build. Condition is great, I was little worried about the valves but the person who is rebuilding the head said it is completely normal after 41k and they had seen valves 10x worse than mine, everything else has been 10 out of 10 so far. Will see what the pistons/rods are like very soon. Cheers Gaz, Stevie.

Those brakes on the S3 were done by yours truly, better methods of affixing R8 brakes to a S3 the guy bought the whole setup and was determined to use the R8 discs. I would imagine there's a healthy 12-15mm spacer on there.

That was one very well looked after S3 by the previous owner, very nice bloke, probably one of the highest spec S3's in the UK. It's wanted for nothing that car, I'd say those brakes have done maybe 2000 miles in the 18 months since fitting, guy just used his van and left the S3 in the garage

Little question for anybody in the know.......opinions or experiences needed. The big heavy duty coolent line running from the sump is seriously tight bordering on stretched it just makes it and no more could have been doing with an extra 5mm. Has anybody got any experience fitting one or how it should sit? Cheers.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1114.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fk524%2Fs3dubbin%2F01032012234.jpg&hash=71444f36ca048a87e4535081e186dbd487ca3225)

These other parts were strapped on aswell, few little bits to tidy up and need to figure out if the intake will fit as this seems to be a problem area against the brake cylinder try and incorporate the itg somehow.

With the atp mani, make sure the surfaces are flat. The ones I have had have needed machining flat as they were miles off.

That oil return shouldn't be that tight.  Looks like they have sent a short line.  I doubt the driveshaft would fit around it either.

If you want a longer line then let me know.  I can get them made within a few days.

On the intake you will have to get something made up to fit as the kit is made for a lhd car.  On a xbow I did a while back I had sfs make a custom silicon elbow which worked perfectly.

Fuk so you mean I need to take it back off again?? That is poor show.
Just had a right good nosey at teffs thread and his looks tighter than mine a little more kinked?
Would you mind me contacting you to organise the intake Alex? Really want something straight fit bolt on easy?

Software will be Revo mapping will be Falkland Performance. I was worried trying to find Revo dealer with rolling road (few in Scotland) and then found out it will be road mapped so all is sorted.

Cheers lads appreciate it. Stevie.

I tried Cocker but he didnt help me. Might try AMD again as they seem to be doing loads of these conversions and charging about £7000 for it. Hopefully Alex gets back to me and its a simple fix he has been a huge help so far. Cant be that hard just need to know what parts and where from. Cheers, Stevie.

Alex is looking into a new smaller dia intake for me to clear the reservoir and I am completely stuck with the cooler pipe. It needs oil and a battery other than that there is nothing left to do, stupid little annoying things holding me back. Stressful! It is booked in for mapping on 14th April. Thanks Paula hopefully have it going soon, exhaust fitting tonight.

Dave I will try get some pics to you later on tonight, I have had a 90deg silicone fitted and a 45deg fitted but don't look right. Might need metal instead of silicone. Brought some wire home from work to bend to exact angle see how I get on. Sure it would be an easy job for somebody with the right tools.

Cheers, Stevie.  :happy2:

I've had a good look at the pics.  Just finding out a price on the 102-70mm 90 deg reducer.

You need to clock the turbo back slightly then I think a 130deg to bring the pipe over the top of the driveshaft or 2x 45's to bring it under.
Title: Re: s3dubbin's Audi S3
Post by: gobbleplease on March 27, 2012, 08:08:36 pm
Yikes ! If your struggling for pipes could you not get an custom exhaust maker to fab you some up ? And ceramic coat them or wrap them ?

Whens crail ? 29th april ?
Title: Re: s3dubbin's Audi S3
Post by: s3dubbin on March 28, 2012, 06:43:23 pm
I would if I had a tow bar or trailer. Even if I could bodge it so that I could drive it to a fab shop. I dont think I will wrap those pipes the THS will do its job.

Crail is 29th April, spoke to Revo yesterday and they are wanting to work on my car up there.

Cheers, Stevie.  :drinking:

Not sure yet Craig. Running at 1.85bar just now so i would guess 450+. Running really well. Get used to it for a few months then back up to see Kev at Falkland for some tweaking. Will go to 2bar and lean it out a little.

On a track day ?

Are those revos the same as the forges ? Whats the pad choice like ? Are they spacerless or have they got extra depth built in the bells ?

I like a pimpin set of brakes but fink im just going to stick with the S3s this time though, as long as i dont get any issues with them on track days - they are decent stoppers, if not a bit weighty

Looks good !

At the hill bry. Videos on the previous page.

Dont know much about them tbh apart for them being Eurospec calipers hopefully have lines and fluid sorted by next week. Not sure on pad choice and all i can tell you is that the bells are mega deep.

The s3 brakes are a great setup i have ran them for long enough. Hope somebody buys mine soon! Thats what i have noticed with these brakes the weight difference is huge.

An update from the last couple of months. Might even call it a rant. Had the car mapped and logged by Falkland performance, running sweet. Next Revo were heading to Crail raceway so Kev went back out on the road with the laptop with them just to make sure everything was spot on, perfect. Then on to the rollers at Extreme motorsport about 5wks ago and they said there was no boost control and it was running lean as hell 14.1 i think they said back then. A little panic and took the car back up to Falkland performance (Revo). Found air was pissin out of a missing bung in the ext wg, plugged that up and fitted the eboost2 away out on the road with the laptop again giving an afr reading of 8 ( i dont understand the different readings, one old skool and one new skool i think) but they were happy again slightly rich. Back to the 4wd rr at Extreme today and it was yanked off for being lean giving a reading of 13.1!!? What the f*ck. In the end i completely trust Revo and Falkland and it has been logged too many times for them to be wrong. I give up. Here are some snippits i took, sorry for the quality.

Can only get it logged for a fourth time asap and see how it goes. Have the lambda plugged in direct for accuracy. I might be wrong but i think both Dan and Teff at 600bhp are Autotech. Falkland and Revo both logged right through the gears and high up the rev range.

Not to many replies yet. If somebody in the know can explain the difference between vagcom logging on the road and my poor readings on the rollers it would be much appreciated? What are these numpties doing wrong with my car on the rollers compared to Revo kev and others for the poor readings? I take it road logging is the more accurate?

Thanks, Stevie.

Maybe get a stand alone afr gauge with seperately lambda so you can monitor it yourself. I would trust Revo. Take it they have done rr runs and not had the problem show up?

These are good ones

I suppose on the RR you are relying on an artificial load.
Title: Re: s3dubbin's Audi S3
Post by: RobH on September 30, 2012, 09:57:25 am
Logging on the road is always gonna be more accurate as thats real world conditions. On a dyno as above artificial loadings and artificial wind and i guess the probe they put in the exhaust aint that accurate compared to vagcom, which should be bang on. Check your spark plugs regulary until your confident everything is right, they dont lie :happy2:

Cheers lads always good to get an opinion. Gauge might be an idea but I do totally trust revo and falkland so bloody helpful all of the time not like that shower of sh*t at extreme Motorsport. Both revo and falkland have road logged/road mapped my car on separate occasions and saying the figures are bang on. Probe was in the exhaust rob.

Stevie I use kev at falkland for all my cars and all my mates cars too I trust him with my car too he isnt the kind of guy that does stuff just to please you if there's a problem he will tell it as it is. Extreme Motorsport I wouldn't go near them wouldn't send my worst enemy there! If kev says your car is fine and he's logged it and its all ok then I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Maybe get a gauge for AFR though just to keep an eye on things can't be too safe but I wouldn't listen to extreme

Have you got any logs? Would be good to see blocks 230, 031, 020 and 003.

Teff uses the hpfpupgrade pump with their 150 bar fprv.

You need to do some 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs.

As said stevie the zorst stick wont be as acurate as the reading direct from the sensors
The thing was the dyno operator said the car was boosting at 2 bar and it wasnt him that backed out on the run it was the car ?

Im not 100% sure about stuff like this but the fans were typical crap and probably only giving you a simulated 30mph air flow if that and was one of thr reasons why i didnt put my car on. this doesnt really explane why it was lean though if anything this would have the opposite effect. Speaking from revo and focus rs set up dv set is critical and can cause overboost if it was overboosting at 2bar instead of the set up of 1.8 as intended maybe the fuel system just cant cope with the increase in boost it seen on the dyno !
Whats caused the extra boost on the day thought dyno conditions ?
Defo didnt smell lean when it was running low down revs
Nostrels are still destroyed lol

Deffo worth getting something to monitor AFRs though not sure if you can get a scangauge for the s3 i had one for the RS (£120)

What kind of exhaust is on it ? I want !!

I went back there to see if it was running correctly and he has said no again. Will log out on the road at 2bar and see what readings are coming out. It doesnt look lean and it doesnt smell lean. Last time out in August Revo wanted to lean it out but kept it safe. Its a BSH downpipe and a Milly back section. A gauge will be purchased soon. The good old rr lotto strikes again +/- 80bhp this time round.

Had a great day up at Knockhill yesterday. Some super quick cars on track. The Bellside evo and the pdk 997 were very evenly matched. Here is a couple of vids of J.Cocker piloting the APR golf.

Reverse track is good to watch. A lot harder by the look of it. Not sure where i will be going with it next Craig right now my wish list has been ticked off, ARB's maybe. Wheels refubed and b-pillars tidied up as the wrap/skin has started to bubble. Need to have a look later on see if i can see how to remove them. Plan on doing the 30-130 if i can get my name down.

Cheers, Stevie.

Not massively stripped just the rear bench out, not sure how far I want to take the weight removing. Going good just need a little extra on the boost band and I would be a lot happier. Yeah lean as hell G..........dont get me started again lol.  :happy2:

Thats pretty decent weight for a 4wd. Maybe some lighter front seats? that's as far as i would go. . . This eco tune mob got their 4wd rolling road yet ? ... still running low boost ? or is it when you plant it there is boost for about 1.5 seconds before needing to change gear ? haha
Title: Re: s3dubbin's Audi S3
Post by: s3dubbin on May 21, 2013, 12:30:43 pm
She would rip the bollocks off me if I changed the seats after what I paid for them lol. I havnt been to ecotune yet not sure what they are like. I heard a rumour AG motorsports 4wd rolling road arrived at their garage yesterday and that is 2mins from my house.

Yeah thats it I would like that 1.5secs of boost to be about 3secs. Saving my pennies just now to rebuild the head. Had it up at knockhill on sunday and put it on for half time drag race, bloody sick of getting beat by these 997t's lol.

Lol. Cheers Graeme. Was good of them to log it out on the road before sticking it on the dyno. Impressed with their setup. Some good guys there on Sunday. Paul with the 32 going HPA turbo seemed a top bloke, should get him on here.
