I've got a problem with my RNS510 not reading SD cards.. I keep getting a "SD card error" no matter what I do.
I've formatted the card, put the mp3 files on, still the same. Formatted card, put mp3 files into a folder then put put on card, still the same. Tryed formatting the card then try to put it in the 510 empty, still the same..
Tryed with 3 different cards, 1x2GB & 2x4GB, all SanDisc HC.....
Would the latest firmware fix this?

If they are SDHC and you don't have 2660 or higher firmware they won't work
Pre 2660 only SD will work
So yes the new firmware will fix that issue :happy2:
-
and dont forget it has to be mp3 format music files, not mpeg 4 or WMA as it wont read these files..... iirc?

Yea, I know that mate :happy2:

could also be the SD card reader that has gone bad. several reports of this in Denmark.
-
the unit needs to be at least a B revision too.
from what i have read the older units are unable to read SDHC of any size, and are limited to 4GB for the older SD cards.
-
Slightly off topic I know, but do you guys notice a big decrease in performance when using large SD cards comtaining loads of tunes? On my RCD510, I only use 512Mb SD cards as anything bigger takes ages to load the tracks when you select the SD from the media menu.

Not true mate.
Both mine are A versions and both have a 16gb SDHC card in and work fine.
As long as the hardware version is H02 or higher then it will accept SDHC upto 32gb from firmware 266X onwards.

It will play certain types of WMA. I seem to remember that low bitrate and no DRM work.

This can also depend on the class rating of the SD card. Alot of cards have no class and are very slow at reading and writing. You can get class 10 cards which are the highest read/write speed. I just picked up a 16gb one for £24.

Ah, mine must have been an earlier unit, the max it would take even when on 266X was 4Gb.
thanks for the info.

Mine did this.
VW diagnosed it as a faulty SD card reader and have replaced it on warranty.
