First of all, big thanks to Gulfstream11 for sorting out the .:R in the middle and supplying these little fella's:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faa104%2FverycherryR32%2Fseatinserts.jpg&hash=9ade81273ad8e9c53416d50c9fb656fa65a81f83)
Much better quality than I thought they were going to be, well made and thick enough to fill the void properly :happy2:
My question, those of you that have them, how have you glued them down? what's best to use?
:chicken:
-
I stuck a red piece of paper behind mine for the GTI look (as advised by gulfstream)
then stuck em down with double sided tape :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Foo246%2Fvwrascal56%2FSNC11160.jpg&hash=be72165f0aaaba6a33cdaf9fcb65d0579c111dde)

excuse image quality, my camera is poor
-
i used clear silicone for mine :) works a treat
-
Again, double sided tape for me as well. Works a treat.
-
I put down some red electrical tape (three or four layers) neatly cut with a craft knife, then superglued it down. For the foot rest, I used double-sided sticky pads (lots of them), applied it in place and then sat in the car with as much force as possible on the foot rest to keep it stuck down. Was there for about twenty minutes.
-
I just stuck some red electrical tape underneath the 'GTI' and folded if over, so effectively it is double-sided. Then just pushed it into place, and it hasn't moved since!
Even though its only stuck on with the electrical tape, it sits so snugly in the gap that it doesn't move/protrude upwards at all!
Very nice product, very good price, very good individual to deal with :happy2:

I am not sure superglue is a good idea, its powerful stuff that, once the red tape fades and goes pink after a while you may struggle to remove it again when you want to replace the tape.
-
My red tape faided recently, but with Red electrical tape holding it down, was easy to remove and replace with fresh.

Ahhh great minds think alike, me and you Phil!!

I'll worry about that when I come to it. At the mo, my two biggest concerns are:
1. getting the car serviced
2. whether the weather will be good enough tomorrow for a detail incl. machine polish
3. how the hell the door sills got so dirty when I cleaned them only three weeks ago. Does anyone wax their door sills?

I wasn't having a go Stealth bud, i just thought it was not the best thing to advise some one to do.I Know the tape fades quite easily and glue is sticky :happy2:

Nah mate, chill. Unless you see the angry smileys, it's all cool. Wasn't bothered when I fitted them and I used only a couple of dabs rather than slapping it everywhere so should be okay.

i find with a mk5, the sills get almost as dirty as the exterior. i will be sealing them with zaino, next time i get a chance and ill be washing just as i do the interior. only takes 10 secs

I understand the driver's sills getting dirty but the other three sills (5-dr) are dirty despite the last time they were opened was when I cleaned them! Was going to have another stab ealier today but had a nap instead!
-
if it rains when your driving, water will get in all the sills. ive not got 5dr but both the front sills in mine get dirty

Sad but true i love washing my sills and door jars mine are always spotless first thing i wash after the wheels are out the way. :happy2:
-
The wheels are the bit I hate. Either have to squat or kneel down, neither of which I like doing. Plus I need to give them a clay. Should have done the wheels and sills today instead of napping.
Fave bits are claying (love the smell of the detailer spray) and tyre dressing (turtlewax smells so good I want to eat it!).
*goes off to sniff some turtlewax*
-
haha...you smelt megs endurance tyre gel?
-
Just smelt both now and the turtlewax smells sweeter and yummier.
-
fair does, i wanna smell it now
-
Turtewax extreme nanotech tyre gel from halfrauds. Go have a sniff tomorrow when no one's looking. Get the bottle, pretend to be reading the labels and covertly open the bottle (hold the cap with one hand and twist the bottle round when you turn to read the back of it!). After that, you can quite easily covertly open the lid. Sniffing is gonna be obvious though.
-
Planned to fit my Gulf inserts today and they dont fit, the angle on the sides is quite far out.
I am guessing its because i have different seats though i thought that part of the seat was the same .
Could someone kindly post up a pic of there insert fitted please. :happy2:

I paid a visit to my local hobby shop today and got some ribbon and these little glue dots, going to give them a go if i can obtain some inserts that fit.
-
I tried something different with my inserts, they are not the best fit in the world as i had to get the dremmel out and alter the shape due to me having different seats.

Now now boys....
The joys of interpreting written speech... :jumpmove:
-
completely aside from the banter....
..i have found that if you bend the plaques a tiny tiny bit, and i mean tiny. they stick much better.
if you havent noticed, the base of the recess that they sit in has a slight convex contour.
obviously the plaques are flat. if they are bent evenly, they stick down much better! ;)
-
How did you bend yours?
-
I'll say a big :happy2: from me TC. It's different and in-keeping with the theme of your car. Plus pictures rarely do these kinds on mods justice!
