Title: North east bodyshop
Post by: nads1_uk on October 28, 2010, 10:11:10 pm
I've got a couple of minor dents in the roof and also want the side skirts and front and rear bumpers coloured coded. As I'm a fussy bugger can anyone recommend a good bodyshop.  I've asked this some time ago and someone recommended a company called Spraytech in Sunderland and not to go to paint and bike magic.  Has anyone hadany experiences of either company both good and bad??

Cheers in advance

I can't personally recommend any bodyshops per se, but for your roof dents (how???), try www.DentDevils.co.uk - not particularly cheap, but arguably the best PDR company.

I didn't actually see it happen so cannot prove anything but, my car was parked in layby opposite my house next to a neighbours.  He was getting some paintwork done on the outside of his house.  The fella doing it obviously had ladders.  I went to go out in my car some time later when I noticed a dent in the roof surrounding which had slight paint marks very similar in colour to what he was using to pain the house with, then when I got round to the drivers side of the car there's 2 faint dents and guess what they are the same distance apart as a standard ladder!!!  I draw my own conclusions but needless to same the wa%%er never even came to tell me.  With this in mind these dents need sorting but I've always thought the colour coding of the bumpers looks so much better so I want to get it all done together hence my quest for a good bodyshop.  I would rather leave it the way it is until I can find someone good than pay to get a second rate job.

Cheers

The only place i will let touch any of my cars when it comes to paint is a small independent garage who has painted a couple of cars for me in the past and done work for friends and family. Ive had too many bad experience with so called bodyshops, experts, insurance repair places etc etc over the years.

I live in the Washington area.  I've never had to use a bodyshop that much, used car and bike magic and the wifes focus did an ok job but not good enough to touch my car.  Also someone recommended spraytech in Sunderland so looking for some advice really.  If the jobs not top notch then I'd rather it wasn't done at all

Just got my gti back from Heaton Park Coachworks after they finished repairing the dents in the roof and door.  Really chuffed, they did a fantastic job very impressed with the level of work done and their service.

I was going to get the bumpers coloured coded but they were more expensive than I wanted to pay however I'm really pleased that I went with tem rather than a cheaper company and getting all the work done to a sub standard finish.

The guy I dealt with was Ian (I believe he was the painter) and he again couldn't have been with more helpful.

Glad the motor is looking spot on again   :jumpmove:

Out of interest how much did they quote you for the bumper and side skirts?

@ bodger00. They were going to charge £688 + vat. They broke it done and the main bulk of that price was going to be in labour costs.  Unlike the other garages I'd taken the car to they were the only ones that were actually going to take the bumpers and skirts off the car to carry out the work.  I personally wasn't happy if the bodyshop was going to do the work while they were on the car.  I know this seems alot but having seen the quality of their work on my car I'm still tempted the get some money together and take it back.

Hope that helps mate

Maxitrol when you go down ask for Ian, he's a top bloke.  They also do a courtesy car if needed but might need to book a little in advance.

What are you going to get done?

Just for info they only deal in cash no cards nowt dodgy they cannot justify the card machine costs.

Let me know how you get on

Are you based in the north east?

Maxitrol it's beautiful down there, my grandparents used to have a caravan in Gunnerside and have great memories of spending school holidays there.

How did you hear about Heaton Park Coachworks cause it's a long way away from you?

@Nads. "They were going to charge £688 + vat." Thats more than I would have expected but I appreciate that they have great workmanship. I too agree that the bits must be taken off the car otherwise overspray always creeps somewhere..... be it on the tyres or worse as I found out once.....on your windows!!

Bodger are you still going to take it there? Just out of interest I also tried car and bike magic and a company called Spraytech who were both cheaper but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I might have payed more to get the dents done at Heaton but I have no issues with them and an more than happy with the outcome so I think the extra was well worth it.
