Has anyone tried this
http://www.my-gti.com/2150/adding-door-warning-lights-to-the-volkswagen-golf-and-jetta-front
Anyone know what sort of prices the parts are?
-
Mortygttdi has done this to his car I think. First person on here to do them.
-
Ok slowly getting round to this mod;-
the prices are
1K0 947 411 A (1K0947411A) - Door Warning Light (1 per door) = £8.80 inc vat each
1J0 971 972 (1J0971972) - Connector Housing (1 per door) = £1.06 inc vat each
Now I need to whip my door card off to see if I have the right type of controller required.
-
.........cheap parts.Let us know how it goes please :happy2:.
-
Update - Door card off and my door controller looks different to that in the my-gti guide. Better give Darren a PM and see if he knows a way round.
:popcornsoda:
-
Rob I've sent you a pm mate, but I could do with my netbook to get on elswin for the wiring diagrams.
The back doors are harder to do but I think i did the last one in about 10 minutes once I knew where every thing went.
If your not sure of any thing just give me a shout ill be available most of the afternoons, but i'm picking up a big mod on saturday :popcornsoda: so will be fitting that if the rain stays off :scared:

i've done this to my cars front and rear doors
Front doors are very easy
on my back door the controller didn't support it, so I wired it directly to the lock (outer door skin needs to be removed)
-
^^^^By the way the above man is a god send when we was doing Scotts car. He was on the other side of the phone for around 20 minutes telling me which wire we needed for the rear doors to work.
Very big thank you Ed :happy2:

Darren, both you and Eddie have helped me extensively in the past. Ever thought of going into Business together
Darren and Eddie... the dynamic duo, great guys to have on the forums :congrats:
-
Damm dealer incompetence they gave me the wrong repair wires, too late to go back today and not got a chance tommorrow so will have to wait until next week.....doh!

i'm picking up a big mod on saturday :popcornsoda: so will be fitting that if the rain stays off :scared:
Darren
Any clues :popcornsoda:
PS; Thanks for the PM.

Would be interested to hear how you get on with this mod. I did like the puddle lights on the MKiv.

So are these the only parts needed?
1K0 947 411 A (1K0947411A) - Door Warning Light (1 per door) = £8.80 inc vat each x2
1J0 971 972 (1J0971972) - Connector Housing (1 per door) = £1.06 inc vat each x2
which repair wire would i need?
i have a 3door so only need the front doors doing
Edit: might have found another way of doing this, by just connecting the wires to my footwell unit and feed the wires through the door grommet and hard wire it to the Door Warning Light, wont need VDS coding....So basically they turn on when the footwell light up once door is open

The p/n's of the repair wire are in the my-gti link in my first post. I was hoping they could be controlled via the footwell lights as I note thats how Darren has his working this way but not sure how he wired them???

i'm ordering the Door Warning Light units ONLY on Monday, which will arrive on Wednesday, so i will have them installed on the Saturday, i'll update in here how i did it, looks straight forward tbh, as in my previous car MK5 R32 i did under seat lighting which were connected to footwells also :happy2:
-
Rob I wired mine like Sunny has just said mate, basically taking the power wire from each door to the front of the car to the footwell lighting. The only problem with it been this way is you need to take the door skins off to get to the wiring loom on the inside of the door. But if you take your time and note what goes where its easy enough.
Darren :happy2:
-
Sounded good until you said door skin off.................
Although just googled this:-
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2984471
I feel confident about it now but will have to have a look tommorrow again when I haven't had five pints. :rolleye: :surprised:
PS When I get to 6 pints I can feel like i can fit an R36 sideways into a golf.

Let us know if you get there before me... which you might very well do as I seem to have half a dozen mini projects, other commitments, work and incompetent dealers in my way. :sad1:
Under seat lighting - any pics / how to's??
-
if the parts arrive on time, and it doesnt rain then i'll be doing this next saturday, as i'm busy during the week doing other mods
I'll make a new thread on how to do the under seat lighting, once i've re-done it on my GTI :happy2:
-
The Repair wires you need would be
000 979 019E and 000 979 009E
on my 5 door golf I managed to use half of each repair wire. I did this on a 3 door for friend and it was to short so you either need to buy extra repair wires or join an extra bit of wire.
It would be a big job to wire them up to the footwell lighting as you would need to remove the outer door skin to feed your wire through to the inside. I would stick to the connecting it to the door controller
-
Ok I've got all the parts now. So should be good to go this weekend. Just curious though about the bulb, anyone swapped it out for a LED or Philips Cool blue etc (I assume its a W5W).
The only thing is the light housing looks pretty much sealed - is there a way of opening it out to change the bulb without breaking.
Mod of a mod
-
I'm very interested in seeing how simple these are to do once a how to is done. How hard can it be
-
Well I got round to doing one side over the weekend:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs337%2FRobGTIPhotos%2FDSC00101.jpg&hash=d45ac835fd4b94104664331628d9103849b36c89)
All in all cost per side is just under £14, the mygti guide covers most of the points, although I didn't solder my connections as I don't have a soldering iron, so I just used scotch lok connectors.
The only other point worth noting is that the repair wires aren't long enough so need to be extended about 5-6 inches, I had a spare repair wire so used this.
-
That looks really good, especially for the price. It's going on my seemingly endless list
-
Hi Guys,
Im gonna do this over the xmas holiday, Im interested in knowing how the rear doors were connected up.
Iv looked at the guide and the fronts look easy enough but my rear door controllers are 1K0 959 703 E/F which I dont think support the exit lights?? Im sure Ed used the lock mechanism?
Any help (Ed or Darren :signLOL:) will be great.

Lee you need to take the door skin off and to the rear of the door, take the plug off the door lock and I think you need to connect a wire to pin 4?? Ed will confirm that wire, take it back through the door to the door controller and connect another wire to pin 10 a big white wire on the door controller plug.
These 2 wires go down to the exit warning lights and connect to the lamp.

Cheers Darren,
Sounds straight forward enough :drinking:
-
Does anyone know the location of a spare ground on a door controller from a 2006MY Golf GTI 5 door. I can't seem to find any?
-
Theres a ground on the electric window button brown/white wire.
Darren
-
Thanks for the reply! I ended up taking ground from the brown wire on pin 2 on the 32 pin plug. :pomppomp: :pomppomp:
-
I've a Golf Plus 1.9TDi 2005. I managed to fit the fronts fine. However, the rear doors are proving a pain. I see above, you managed to connect up to the lock plug for the +tive? I can take a 12v positive from the controller plug but the light stays on when I close the door even after setting up through the Vag-com. Is there a spare pin on the lock? someone mentioned pin 4!
-
Hi,
sorry to bring this topic back to live.
hoping anyone having the same problem as me can give us some insights......
Rear door card puddle lights not working, and what i have done so far:-
1. coding in 42, 62 & 72 already changed;
2. Pin 14 is taken, so tried Pin 6 as 12v, still no use (Pin 4 as ground already plugged in);
3. used voltage-meter to test the pins inside the controller, the meter didnot get a reading at all on all pins;
4. Lights & wires tested by touching direct to the battery and confirmed working;
car is Mk5 2006 1.6FSi (I am convinced the car was manufactured before June 06, so it uses the old controller module)
front puddle lights work and shine like Christmas Tree.....
Can anyone help me how to solve the rear lights connection problem?
many thanks.
a VW'er from Hong Kong
-
today tried pin 6 as positive and pin 4 as ground, and no lights!
any one can help me?
-
have you tried pin 1 for 12v? thats where mines put in
-
Hi vw55raz,
pin1 as 12v for rear door puddle lights? (and pin 4 as ground remains)
thanks
-
they won't work on the rear doors
when I did them on my old car, i wired them into pin 4 on the actual door lock (this would be a switched earth) take the power from the main Red & yellow wire. no need for coding
-
Hi Eddie,
so wot you r saying is .... even though I activated the coding for the rear doors, none of the pins at the controller will enable the puddle lights to be swtiched on?
......... :rolleye: :rolleye:

Oh sorry, pin 1 is for fronts,
have you referred to the web link that MARKO has posted up?
Double check the coding in vcds.
By the way they are called door warning lights, puddle lights are the ones which go on the wing mirror.

my golf is 2007 and i used the link i gave above and mine work fine...

:happy2:
they would as they are GEN3
GEN1 & GEN2 won't work
hence why you have to hard wire them
