.
You're not alone in this, Andy. However, my excuse is that I'm 63yo.

I have a theory because I can remember some things vividly from many years ago but not so recent. My theory, which might not be original, is that the brain can speed ahead and so focus much more on present and immediate future at the expense of the more immediate past.

Being able to focus and think ahead is very useful when driving.

Now, which post was I going to answer before I saw this one?

i now tell people what i,m going to the office for, because if someone smiles or talk to me and distracts me i have forgotten what it was i went for... so i buzz down on the phone and they tell me.
the girls at work blame my age ands therefore senility creeping in but i just think my brain has so much important stuff milling around i cant hold onto the unimportant bits... so its my brain prioritising..

an elderly ex lawyer once said to me she was having a CRAFT moment.....not a blonde or old moment...
she said it was Cant Remember A Fcukin Thingb  :signLOL:

I get that alot Andy, I just put it down to the same as Matsu too much info going round in my head and don't know which to priorities so forget immediate things that im suppose to be doing or going to do.

I do things and  then get chased for things I should have done before it

Its weird because I can forget where i put my van keys the night before, but if I go back to a job I did months ago I can walk in and know where every cable is in every wall and ceiling without having to write it down or make a plan.

Yes but the details of the job were important and hence you remember more of it. If i don't put my keys in the same place, it takes me ages to find them because I can't remember where i put them.

You need to mentally acknowledge your actions and surroundings eg when you put your keys down, remember where you are/surroundings etc. This helps plant the memory. Problen is, if I did that I'd just put the keys back in their regular place!

When your brain is processing lots of info, it will sometimes discard what it thinks is unnecessary despite the fact that you may think it's unimportant. Hence the more you do strengthen the memory of something, the more likely it is to remain.

I remember the most obscure things without issue however I could ask you if you want a cup of tea, you might reply yes so I'd ask if you want milk and sugar.  By the time I've put the tea bag in the cup i'd be asking you how many sugars you said you wanted.

It's funny you should say this Andy! I literally had/have the worst memory ever, I would forget EVERYTHING! I put most of it down to me smoking far to much of the 'herb' when I was younger!

However recently I started a new job where I have to remember a whole host of things, I was useless at first but over the past few weeks my memory seems to have improved and I don't have much trouble remembering everything that I need to! Weird I know!

Yup. Blame it on being on nightshifts and having had only three hours' sleep when I typed that.
