Hi All, For anyone who's running with these tyres or had them in the past. What pressure did you have these tyres at? Did you stick with whats on the fuel cap or did you go with what Vredestein state (44psi front 49psi rear)?
Trying to decide what to run mine at....any help much appreciated.

I was told to run at 40 Psi by a Vredestein dealer
-
Thanks....Is that 40 psi all round?
-
Dont no what size u've got but mine are 235 35 19, i run 32psi all round and seems ok.
I dint realise they where recomended to be between 40 and 50, this seems a bit high/hard, should imagine the ride would be really hard and bumpy.
Just a case of trying it i suppose, any size 17,18,19 personally i would put 32psi. But would like to hear if people do different.
-
The recommended pressure is 34-36. It can affect handling quite a lot if you under inflate.
-
I'm getting two of these fitted tomorrow, looking forward to having some front end grip again!
I'll ask the fitter tomorrow. But I was planning on keeping mine at 34 all round. If I run two vred's and two conti's are the vred's still recommended to run at a slightly higher psi?

I have 18's on mine. I'll try the 32 psi as I have them on the vredestiein recommended psi at the moment but it feels quite loose/skitish.
These are what are on the www.vredestein.co.uk when you select vw golf mkv gti:
Ultrac Sessanta 225/40 ZR 18 92 Y XL 44 PSI 49 PSI
Ultrac Sessanta 225/45 ZR 17 94 Y XL 44 PSI 49 PSI

Will be interested to hear what the fitters opinion is.

wow, ive never seen a tyre specced at 44 /49 psi! Id definitely be questioning that (doesnt mean its wrong though )

Just checked their website and it says i should be running the Wintrac Xtremes on the MK6 at 44psi on the front and 49psi on the rears. might give it a try over the weekend and see how it feels.

Any idea why these have to be pumped up alot more than other makes of tyres?

+1
Those are crazy psi figures :scared:
-
Vredestein requires a higher psi, any decent tyre fitter used to the brand knows they require a higher psi.
Exactly why? Have heard it is something to do with tyre compound and construction, but follow their guide, again they designed the tyre and know what pressure to use.
-
Its a bit strange having higher pressures on the rear
-
just an update on this i have put the recomended pressures in my car earlyer tonight i have done about 15 miles in the wet, n they seam to grip very well, and dont seam to be to bumpy or bouncy over rough roads
i hope it improves my mpg as im only getting 290 to a tank :(

Please keep us posted, I'm tempted to try although they feel prefect at 2.6 bar. Be interested to know what evo ran them at when the came second in their tyre test?

Found this elsewhere:-

I emailed Vredestein Uk yesterday to ask their opinion, seeing has how every forum has a different opinion and this is their reply
Thank you very much for your Email as we appreciate all feed back from our customers.
For the correct tyre pressure, please refer to the pressure indicated in the instruction manual of the car or on the door frame or inside the tank lid, please take in to account the Normal Load pressures and Heavy Load pressure.(Extra load, XL, Tyres + 4 psi)
The tyre pressure Vredestein advises is calculated on maximum load.(See Website) It is normal for a tyre to lose a bit pressure after a while. Our experience is that people do not regularly check their tyre pressure. Vredestein advices this higher pressure because we want to avoid too low pressure which can irreparable damage the tyres, is responsible for more tyre wear, moreover it causes unnecessary fuel consumption.
With a bit extra pressure all these negative aspects will be avoided, the only thing is that the vehicle may feel less comfortable but in practice this comes out marginal.
We hope this answers your question.

1. TYRE PRESSURE
The tyre pressure must always correspond with the pressure recommended by the car manufacturer.

Straight from the horses mouth then. Glad this got cleared up too as I've recently fitted a pair.
-
when I collect my car from York 5 weeks ago, took it to the local gorge to replace rear tyre as it was badly worn on the inside, drove off after having new tyre fitted and a mile down the road the tyre pressure light came on, pulled in to service station and checked pressure and had 49psi in it, put the pressure down to 36 psi and reset the button in the car and all fine again, just think 49psi is to high?
-
My tyres are all at 36psi at the minute and I am quite happy with the ride and handling at the moment. Must say that the Vreds are less tippy toe this morning at these lower temps than the GY Eagle Asymmetrics were. :happy2:

Never heard of this before from a manufacturer, putting more air in the tyre cause over time they go down! They loose there pressure cause the moisture in the compressed air seeps through the rubber, so if you put nitrogen in your tyres this wont happen.
In this case what are the correct pressures? how much is there bit of pressure over? and how long is their "after a while" that the tyres are overinflated?
-
Just noticed Vredestein advised pressure is calculated on maximum load, who drives with that all the time anyway. Im normally half that.
Think ill just stick to car manufacturers spec as said on the other website.

I've found them to be superb in the wet, ice and snow. I'll keep putting them on my cars because of this reason
-
putting 44psi in a tyre with a car that is unladen will be a bit bouncy and also will wear the middle of the tyre out quicker
-
hmmm i might be lowering the pressure in mine this morning then, back to 2.6bar, although they do seem fine with the higher pressure and normal driving
-
Having ran mine for a week at the high pressures I've now gone to the stock pressure and I think the car feels a lot more stable at the lower pressures, I may try the stock pressure + 4psi and see how I that goes...
