The advice on the forum has been fantastic and is helping me out loads!
I am looking to buy a ED 30 in the this month, I have found two so far which I have perked my intrest.
My budget and conditions are £14000 and has to have DSG - 5 dr if possible but will settle for 3dr and around the 50000 mile mark otherwise its too many miles for a 07 -08 car.
I live in Kent and my postcode starts with TN3 so a car in the south of England would be best and so far the cars below fit the criteria best.

If anybody else has some tips of what to look out for or knows anyone selling a ED 30 or finds a ED 30 on the various internet sites which is within my prices range please give me a heads up!

heres my reply......
of the 2 cars I'd also ask about cambelt on both.
exhaust tips on both look dirty which hints that owners dont 'care' that much for the cars
second car has bad drivers seat bolster on rhs, they all go bad to some extent but that looks bad for miles/yrs
(mine has 45k and isnt that bad and I'm not a small bloke!)

A little heads up for you price wise. I recently bought a September 07 Ed 30 with 20,000 miles on it from a main VW dealer (so comes with a years warrenty)
for £13,500. Be careful you dont pay too much!

Thanks for that Daviscup, I have been looking at the main VW dealers and I have given them my details to contact me if any ED 30 come onto the forcourt, but the bloke who took my details said he had only seen one in the last 12 months!! :surprised:
I have been keeping a eye out on Pistonheads, Autotrader, ebay and this forum for the last month, but its proving hard to find a ED 30 with DSG and reasonable low millage for £14000 or lower. :sad:

Yes the DSG ones seem to command a higher price. I test drove one and hated it. Manual for me all the way. It was similar spec and mileage to the one I bought, albeit 6 months younger. The price difference was around 4 and a half grand!

Glasses list the ed 30
A while back there were some car supermarkets selling new ed 30 3 dr manual for £17995. They were imports though. I suppose they have all blended in with the uk ones now though so perhaps check the supplying dealer in the service book. You would expect it to be that same amount cheaper compared to the uk one when secondhand.
Also because they are normally numbered its sometimes possible to track down previous owners and history of the vehicle. There is the ed 30 register which is worth checking. You can use the forums and things like this to help check history.
Its nice if the seller is telling the truth but some of the ads say never modded, crashed or damaged one carefull owner. A quick search can reveal all sorts.
I will be looking for one for my next car, really like the ed 30.

I want 08 with less than 10k miles in Grey or White must be 3dr , one owner full VAG history I look in all the places about every 5 days it seams i missed one with 9000mls just the other day ahhhhhhhhhh
I have a RED one with quite a lot of extras its lovely now covered 12k miles on a 08 with dsg xenons mfsw nav parking sensors and its mint full vag history

Yeah I was thinking that too, but that sort of prices does seem to be the average for the DSG ED 30, But with the high mileage and Scratched boot Im sure the price could be brought down to £13000.

No its not for sale , I want one i could tinker with do a few mods to and use on a sunday sort off as a hobby /project car .S3 BRAKES , ALLOY WISHBONES AND ENGINE MOUNTS just polish it and play with it as most off the time there is just sh*t on tv at the moment i am thinking off a quattro as the ED30 seams a very rare car to find well what i want anyway

Actually its not cheap at all mate its book price. I had been watching the car for a few months. It was for sale privately and the price started I think around £15,500. The guy dropped the price every week down to around £13,500. Even at that price he could not shift it and had to trade it into the VW garage I bought it from. The moral of thye story is beware paying overinflated prices for these cars. There are a lot out there that are WAY too expensive.

Yes but VW main dealers are often very reluctant to sell you a car for book price. I have tried haggling with them over a few and there has been very little movement on their side. Admittedly, I am after very desirable ones and haven't targeted the ones that have been hanging around a while.
Getting the ED30 - with that mileage - you bought from a MD with a warranty and breakdown cover is a decent deal.

Totally agree most cars at main dealers are way overpriced, as per my example of the DSG one I drove that was £4,500 dearer than the one I bought. Maybe I got lucky with my car. The dealer I bought it from had more of a family owned feel to it and was based in a smaller town, unlike the DSG car where the dealer was your typical flash showroom based in a major city. They seemed like quite an honest bunch, and the price of all their second hand cars reflected this.

Dealers always start the car for sale with a massive price tag then slowly lower it if it doesn't sell. They'll try to get as much as they can for it, with is understandable.
When I bought my S3 it was up for sale at £22k. I first went in and offered £18k for it and they laughed at me. Each month for 3 months I went back with the same offer... eventually they accepted it :grin:
A year and a half later, I sold it to another Audi dealer for £16k. The next day it was on their forecourt for £21,995 :stupid:
I bought it back off them 3 months later... for £16k :grin:

Absolutely. It's just like houses. However, if you play the waiting game then you've got to accept that you could well lose your dream. They are banking on people paying a wad just to get something they desire, even if they know they're overpaying.
I'd pay more now for a CW ed30 than I would three months ago..simply cos I want this waiting to end.

Thanks for the further help guys, I went out to look at a ED 30 today and heres my summary of it and I have to make the decision what to do now.....
Below is a list of pros and cons I have come up with for the car followed by some photos, the seller is asking for £13500, I will offer him £12800 for the car and hope he agrees or meets me around the £13000 mark, do you think that is a fair price for the car even with the Cons for it??
The seller let me takes lots of photos SO I have some of the VIN number and his V5 log sheet and Service book, from the VIN number is there anyway I can find out the Edition number of the car or do I have to be the onwer before VW will tell me?

New tyres on the rear, front tyres are in good condition
Alloys are in perfect condition, no scuffing
New brake pads front and rear
New brake discs on the front, rear ones in good condition
Calipers where re-sprayed by VW as paint was peeling
DSG oil change took place at 39000 by VW - car is now on 49000
Cambelt was changed at 31000 miles.
Full VWSH
Engine in good condition, no oil spills, but not super clean to hide anything.
CON'S
Passengers side wing mirror cracked
Scratch on front splitter
Missing cup holders in the rear
Boot lining scuffed and plastic marked
Stone chips on the front bumper
Scratch on boot
Passengers door has chip on its edge
Condensation in rear light
Spare key has been damaged and doesnt work properly
EXTRAS
The extras the ED 30 had where:
Multi functional steering wheel with the DSG shift paddles
Auto dimming Rear view mirror and wing mirrors
Heated front Seats
Extendable armrest??
The bad points where that the on board computer was not the highline one which gives you tyre pressures ect, just the normal one and also I couldnt find the IPOD connection in the car?? I thought all ED 30 cames with them as standard regardless of which headunit it has??

If you like the car, don't worry about those bad points as they can all be sorted in a day for a few quid. Try to haggle some money off the car because of the damage. I bought my GTI with loads more scrathes, dents and missing trim than on that car and I sorted them out very quickly.

I got one of those kits and they're so easy to use. Also, you can get a 15% discount on that price if you use the code BMW10 (forum discount from the BMW forum I use).
Plastic trim can either be replaced with bits from a scrappy or from a dealer. They can also be repaired quite easily or trimmed with leather/alcantara etc if that's your bag.
The rear light can easily be removed, dried out and then sealed with some clear silicone, which would be invisible once it's back on.

It's good to know that most of the problems on the car can be fixed fairly cheaply.
I'm still worried that the car is priced too high for the miles on it and the little bits of damage on it, that's why if the bloke wont agree to £13000 then I think I might wait for another one to pop up.
Also my other worries is that it doesn't have the highline computer on it and I'm guessing there expensive to retro fit? And is there anyway to find out the cars Edition No from the VIN or registration?

Heated seats and auto-dimming mirror were standard. Armrest and MFSW were optional extras.

Highline doesn't give you tyre pressures, but it does give you a shed load of other settings to see and fiddle with. I was under the impression that it came with the MFSW too but I'm not exactly sure on that point (the wheel could have been retro-fitted?).

Nope, that was an optional extra too.

I dont think VW would give out any info if your not the registered owner..
When I phoned up to get my plaque/build number VW didn't have have me down as the registered owner dew to me only owning the car for 3 weeks, so I had to send them a pic of the V5 showing my name & address to prove I was the owner....
