on the m6 yesterday betwwen j6-j27 in 6th gear on cruise about 56-58 mph
I should point out that this was an experiment only and should not be repeated kids as it was boring as fook - i even got overtaken by an eddie stobart and a homebase truck ha ha. I blasted it on the b roads as soon as came off m6!
still, interesting to see that those figures can be achieved if you are needing to be frugal on a long journey and are in no rush whatsoever...

I try and drive very gentle and still can only manage about 35. Does cruise control help the mpg?
-
Most I managed at about 65mph was 40mpg. This was on the A1 from Newark to the M62.
It does help a lot if you don't go up any hills at all. :driver:

Cruise can help to maintain a steady speed which can be hard to maintain with manual throttle input, but assuming constant speed is maintained then the cruise will actually be less efficient than manual input as the cruise wont give such a linear response to changes in gradient. It will improve compared to the usual accelerate decelerate that most drivers maintain.

You should have put a disclaimer on that post as looking at the MPG figures on that forum will cause GTI owners to go into deep depression
My dad has a 1.9 TDI and on his 30 mile journey to work (mix of roads) usually averages about 50-55 MPG
-
lol round town very rarely get 15mpg out of my r32 lol, on the mway, i have seen 30mpg but some of them figures are great
-
As iv said in a previous topic, iv managed 40.5 in my eddy, through town about 9pm going quite steady - VERY BORING and as youll guess, i havent had that much mpg since... had more smiles per miles :-D

I drove from portsmouth back to Ireland on my KO4 conversion and with not really trying doing 80-90 on motorways i got 38mpg, 450 out of the tank!
-
Point of comparison, I used to get 44MPG combined out my derv Grande Punto.
That's an excellent result for an ED30

When I was lugging stuff around and having to make multiple trips over a few weekends (around 180 miles from A to B), making the same journey each Saturday and Sunday for a total of five return trips, I used cruise control.
Sat at 3000rpm in sixth gear (around 56mph) and was getting 42+mpg when the car was empty.
-
That trumps me.
41.7 my personal best - I get bored easily
