Title: fitting LED lights to mirror puddle lights?
Post by: GeeTeeI on November 09, 2010, 07:23:59 pm
ok, so I've fitted the LED number plate lights and they look amazing - I can see how they would look even better on a white GTI.

But now the courtesy, driveway, puddle lights (the ones in the mirrors that light up the door and the bit behind the wheelarch) look a bit poor in comparison.

How does one get to these and can they have LED lights fitted in the same way as the no. plate lights?

Just a simple matter of pushing the wing mirror all the way forward to reveal the screw holding the lens cover in place, remove screw (Torx No 6 if I remember correctly) and easing lens cover and its mounting out in the direction of the screw. Bulb holder is in the rubber grommet in the back of the lens. Bulb is a 5Watt capless. Will be doing this mod on mine soon.  :happy2:

will be doing this also

was told you need W5W bulbs, same as you use for side lights/interior bulbs

Are the interior bulbs w5w too? I thought they were the same type as the number plate bulbs

To do the whole interior you'll need 8 w5w 501's and 4 festoons. Festoons for vanity mirrors, centre front ceiling and boot (with a folded up bit of foil to make it fit). The rest cover the footwells, ceiling and glove box  :happy2:

Well worth it IMO
