Fecking diseasals!
But joking apart, it does look a very nicely modded Mk5 GT :happy2:. OZ wheels are great aren't they :notworthy:
Loving the pic on the beach. I hope you checked the tides first!
-
PMSL!!! Its never been called a Diseasal before ha ha
Thanks for the comment :happy2: I am quite pleased with the wheels, wanted something a bit different & they're very light :driver:
Thankfully with the beech, the sea was about a mile a way - its the pic of the rear on the way home that might disturb detailing fans

^^ Had any issues with the plates and the law yet?
What's the 140 actually like on fuel too mate, do you hit near 50mpg combined like the majority rave that they allegedly do?

I live by the police head quarters for Derbyshire and I've not had any problems in the 18 months I've had them. I reckon the GB logo might make them abit less obvious.
With Mpg, 46 & 550 miles is usually my average, with half town & half normal driving. I reckon if I drove it sensible all the time I'd get 50+ easily but I can't resist an occasional boot :driver:
My best yet was a trip to Northumberland and I got 55 and 670 miles.
-
My best yet was a trip to Northumberland and I got 55 and 670 miles.
....I'm afraid that I'd prefer to remember a journey for the spirited driving fun I had rather than a high mpg number.
I once had to lead the way back to my home for about 60 miles and my friend following was (and still is) dedicated to environmental issues and won't ever drive above 60 mph even on a clear dry motorway. I did one of my highest mpg IIRC but I was bored senseless and had to make an excuse to him while I went out for a quick blast when we got to my place. I remember that journey home well, but for the wrong reasons and it still makes me wince!

Me too however i did have a car full of kit and 2 mountain bikes on my roof for this journey, so not really the best set up for spirited driving!

Just a bit of an update:

Still undecided as whether to keep them :stupid:
-
Begging for a drop but once you have, I think you'll fall in love with them :happy2: (Look at Mortygttdis/Darren's, he's on similar wheels with a drop)
A very nice wheel and they'll bounce off the black of the body if you put it on lower suspension
4th pic is my fave. Very clean too, nice effort fella.
-
liking them wheels but i would say that :signLOL:as pete mentions needs lowering a bit
-
Great looking car, always good to have more diesels around :happy2:
i got a 140 as well such and amazing car and so good on fuel. Ive only managed to get a 630 miles out of it but i must have a heavier foot :driver:
Wheels look so nice  was thinking about getting some BBS CH028 myself
-
Thanks for the comments guys :happy2:
It's going in the bodyshop tomorrow and hopefully back for the weekend - so they'll be a big update coming soon :jumping:

Right, update time.
My friend fitted my Eibach Sportlines on Saturday (while i watched hopelessly until required!) Really happy with them, just the drop i wanted and the handling is a lot sharper, while the ride is noticably firmer but not crashy.

Not as low as some would like but definately as low as i want to go!
:happy2:
-
Coming along very nicely fella :happy2:
You planning on doing anymore?
-
Looks well, that! I think eibach's give just the right drop! :happy2:
-
Looking great dude! :happy2:
The drop has done wonders for it's overall look and of course stance.
The Xenons are a classy touch, just as I found them and give the front profile a very fresh yet aggressive appearance when they're on
-
Coming along very nicely fella :happy2:

Cheers
Well, i wasn't planning on doing much in the first place but you know how it is!
On the outside i think a wheel refurb in Anthracite will be next, then a Milltek Exhaust
Inside im after a R32 / edition 30 Steering wheel, Gti Pedals, and possibly a RNS510. Having cruise control fitted tomorrow.
It scares me to think how much ive spent already and how much my wish list will cost (no where near as much as some on here) :scared:
:happy2:

I think the Xenons are my favourite mod & most pratical. They've transformed the look of the car & the difference they make for night driving :jumping:
Like you say they just look aggresive
:happy2:
-
spot on that mate :happy2:, on the refurb front, I like the bright silver against the black, dark wheels are so last year

Thanks Gaz. Been toying with Idea of having my OZ's in white. I've not seen a black mk5 with white wheels but there's proberbly a good reason for that!
Wonder what other colours would suit the bbs'
-
Whites gonna be a nIghtmare! Trust me stick with silver on a dark car! I had my Porsche wheels done blue then red then ended up back silver alOng with some major hassle getting the correct valves and stuff :ashamed:

car is looking brilliant.some very tastefull mods you have added :happy2:

I bought some Pro Valet PH neutral snow foam this week and gave it a go this afternoon.
Was expecting it to be a bit overated but im well impressed with it! Didnt take any pictures of the car before i started stupidly but you couldnt the see the number plate for salt. Once the car was covered, left it to soak for 10 minutes and then pressure washed the foam off and the car looked like id already washed it!

Not a lot of to report since my last update other than my shortened front number plate - really pleeased with that.
Got some GT seat inserts a few weeks ago & picked up some brand new 16" steel winters - just need to sort the tyres now

This looks stunning mate, more or less what I'd have done to it given the same car :happy2:
One of my favourite GT's.
You realise it'll stay clean for about 2 days? Mine had a layer of salt smeared over it in no time. Just takes one return commute and I can't tell the shade of grey it is :fighting:
Cool steelies! Fit over the brakes etc...? Look forward to seeing these on.
-
Looking good mate. What steels are they? I was looking for steels a while ago but couldn't find any that would fit. Settled for a set of 16" GT alloys.

Thank you for your kind words :notworthy: Hopefully have it finished the way I want it next year.
Your not wrong about it not staying clean - 20 miles to work this morning and its filthy again! Its just a case of accepting its not going to stay clean and trying to get the salt off as quickly as possible :scared:
Not tried the steelies on yet but ive seen a thread with someone else running the same spec. 16" fit over Gti & Gt brakes. Someone on the forum has 15" Steelies for their GT and they just fit with about 1mm to spare
Im considering painting them a different colour - but not sure what colour yet!
:happy2:

Cheers mate - I got them off a guy who'd bought them from a Skoda dealer for his Octavia. He ended up finding a set off alloys with winter tyres already on. Pretty sure they're the same steel wheels that Leon's have.

I did look at 15"'s but i dont think i'd get on my drive it the cae dropped much lower. What tyres you running on yours?

Mine looks worse than that. The entire car (apart from the roof) now looks like your hatch.
-
the golf's tail gate always seems to be the dirtiest

I think that affects all hatchbacks to some degree.

Im running 195/65 r 15. like the mods so far on yours mate. i paid for a rear votex valance from a guy called redsnake but he ripped me off . it looks the nuts on your car and is probs the best option if you dont have exposed tail pipes

Cheers mate
Nice one, which steering wheel you gone for? Or did you manage to get the buttons for your existing SW
Where did you get your Control module from? I need to swap mine over
:happy2:
-
I got a brand new flat bottom Gti steering wheel off Eddie-NL and because I wanted full functionality of the mfsw I had a highline controller off him at the same time. Be worth a pm see if he can get you one. Easy to code aswell once fitted. :happy2:
-
How much do the eibachs drop the car by, is it by Front 20-25 mm & Rear: 20 mm?
Brad
-
Wheel looks great. I want a flat bottom one but only just fitted a normal MFSW!

Cool, you pleased with the outcome?! The flat bottom wheel is so much nicer to steer with & look at!

At least your ready to go if you do end up picking a flat bottom wheel :happy2:

I got my steering wheel module off eddie too and fitted cruise control when we did the wheel! Was your wheel an ebay job? I keep checking but not many come up. When they do im skint or I blow my turbo up
-
Yeah it was an eBay job.
Yeah I saw that, very unlucky for the turbo to go on such a low mileage car :sad1:
I never know what I'm looking to do next on my car, usually what ever crops up for a good price on the net
-
Nice car :congrats:.
Keep up the good work! :happy2:
-
Yeah I'm well chuffed with it. Like you say its alot nicer to hold and to look at. I need to learn to not find it as distracting lol :driver: Also looking forward to getting my highline sorted.

Hey mate, car looks absolutely awesome! Just wondering which Eibachs did you go for, whats the drop? i'm really struggling to choose. Any problems with rubbing or anything?

I went for the Eibach Sportlines - different websites say different drops for the the same part no - Eibach's new parts catalogue website states 45 - 50mm which i'd say was accurate.
http://web2.carparts-cat.com/default.aspx?32=17280&51=11495010218&35=2299&125=0&36=189&124=189&14=4&10=B77F4E757AAFFD9BE040A8C00A3E5459279004&12=140
Because of the offset and width of the Ch's (ET45 & 8J wide) I do very occasionally get a bit of rubbing on the rear wheel arch liner (But only when ive got 5 people in the car) and it only happens if the road is stupidly bumpy! Its probably happened 5 times in 10,000 miles. Its never rubbed when its just been me in the car. You do need to do the front wheel arch screw mod though which stops the front from catching (Dead easy to do - took me about a minute each side)
I've just took a couple more pics now the springs hace settled:

You can have the camber adjusted to 2 degrees (2.15 degrees is the maximum allowed camber setup by VW for the rear tires). This way the tires should not rub anymore (I had ET40 and 8inch tires with no rubbing). :drinking:

Thanks for that info Rex - think i'll have to look in to that :happy2:
With the camber adjusted would it not make the tyres wear unevenly? And did you notice any effects on the handling?
Cheers

Cheers
I have 2 degrees and 30 min of negative camber on the front and 2 degrees of negative camber on the back. No problems with uneven tire wear so far (one year)! The benefits are great but that is mostly due to the front camber.
I would say there should be no uneven wear up to 2 degrees 15 minutes on the back (after all, it's VW's own specifications).

It'll be getting a major clean this weekend before anyone says anything :P
-
Very stealthy mate. I wanted steelies for mine but couldn't find any in the right fitment so ended up with the Imolas.
I did mention it needed a clean on the previous page :P. Your not the only one though. Mine is filthy. Hoping to try out thr new pressure washer and foam lance over the weekend.
Looking good though mate. Roll on summer I say.

Looks great! Im biased though!

Think they just need spacers and then they'd look ok.
If you need any cars to practice your new lance on, I'd be happy to donate mine! Ha ha :P

A different colour like you've done is in order I think for next winter!
Did you find that your car was quite a bit lower once you'd fitted yours?

Led units - rather than just led bulbs in the oem holders. Just need to see them when its dark now
-
there rele good in the dark i have had these on my car 4 over a year now and there still going strong :happy2:
-
Cool, thats good to know they last!
Did yours come with a metal box that also plugs in to the Led unit? These did and work without them plugged in - im assuming its something to do with bulb errors. Did really want them rattling about behind the bumper!
-
nope just the units them self dude :happy2:
-
Love the car! even on steels its looks ace! where did you pick those LED number plate lights up from bud? :drinking:
-
I'd like to get rid of the Imolas for some steelies. Just can't seem to find any or know what fits.

MK6 Golf
MK2 Fabia
MK2 Octavia
Want to get mine painted at some point

Another plus to the OZ's is you dont see many golfs running them! What do you guys reckon?! :happy2:

Wondered where you had been hiding mate. As for the wheels personally I think the CH's look better.

Just been a bit busy lately and not a lot of time for the car, I'm getting itchy again though and need to do some more bits soon!!!
Yeah, still can't decide. The CH's do have a better stance. Decisions decisions! Still keeping an eye out for a set of charlestons too!
-
What sort of bits you thinking?
I've just had a look on ebay as i saw a set of Charlestons on there the other day. Couldn't find them though.

Both your wheels suit your car in my opinion. :happy2:

Wish list is: EGR delete, Remap & Milltek Back Box and Decat (But need to source a votex rear spoiler with the exhaust cut out - Mega rare!!!)
To be done in the very near future - Wheel Refurb, Full wheel alignment, tyres & a machine polish!

Its been a manic few months recently so not much has been done.

Went for a Carectere one as it sticks out a little bit more thana votex one
-
Cheers for the comments guys.
I do think the purple looks quite good against the black
-
Does look better on the CHs
-
Looks good mate

Looks awesome mate

Time for a few updates! It's been a while!!!
Since the last update I've changed the rear valance from a Votex one to an Edition 30 one. I've had fitted a full Milltek, non resonated, decatted system. A remap now running 185bhp & 300lbs torque and the bonnet & front wings resprayed to get rid of all the chips!
Heres a few pics - apologies for the poor quality, need to get some decent ones when the weather picks up!
:happy2:

Black & Purple wedding car looks nice! Any more pictures of the spoiler? :ashamed:

Still alive then  How you been? Car is looking good.

Yeah the purple did suit it! Got some looks when dropped the married couple off at Birmingham Airport the next day!
I'll try and get a better pic of the spoiler at the weekend :happy2:

Yeah still alive :signLOL:
Just been busy lately, hopefully get a bit more time to enjoy the car soon! I'm good ta :happy2: how about you? You been to any local meets recently?
-
Yeah I'm good thanks mate. Not been to any meets. Nothing has come up round here really. Did pop over to the R-Tech RR meet over christmas. That's it really. Have to sort something out and catch up.
-
How do you find the decat? Much of a difference?
-
Love the front of this buddy
-
Great GT Sport
Loving the Ed30 rear bumper :happy2:

Performance wise its minimal, the turbo spools up a little sooner. I guess it depends on what mods you do. You'd see the benefits a lot more if you ran a hybrid turbo
The main benefit for mine is it gives the exhaust a better sound :happy2:
-
Looks awesome, where was the exhaust from? :happy2:
-
Cheers mate :drinking:
Got the exhaust from Awesome
-
This is a beaut. I'd love my 2.0 GT to turn out half as good as this. The GT front with the lower splitter and CH's is a winning combo.
-
Lovely car this fella, great touches man! :happy2:
-
Thanks for the comments guys!
Its getting there! :happy2:
-
Bloody hell :surprised: Not good at all. Were there any signs before it went? At least its back and stronger than ever :congrats:

Must admit, it scared the sheet out of me! It happened as I was changing into 6th, luckily dipping the clutch did managed to disengage the gearbox! And i still had drive in 1st 2nd 3rd & 5th so managed to crawl to the services that i was luckily right next to!
There was no warning sign at all, had no noises, the gears were selecting fine. The one thing i did notice though when taking the gearbox out was the selector was loose and had slight play in the splines. Not something id expect to cause that sort of failure but it may well of done! I drained the gearbox oil out of the knackered box to see if there were any metal shards but it was surprisingly clean!
-
Quite scary though. At least you had breakdown cover. I broke down in the lakes, on boxing day without cover!
