Right chaps for those of you that have not been here before;

Please park up in and around Motoscope courteously, try not to block other business access points.

On arrival go inside the main the shop and register your details. You will be given a sheet that you need to leave on your passenger seat for the RR operator.

All cars running need to line up down the side of the premises one after another. Just join the end of the que, making sure you move your car up the line when needed.(DSG cars will go last). If you have a car that will only run in 4 wheel drive see me first before joining the line)

Unless you tell me otherwise, all cars running will have the bhp/torque figures recorded and the results will be posted in the appropriate forum thread.

The butty van will be over the road until 1pm, then will be moving around the back next to the rolling road for the rest of the afternoon. There is a toilet in the workshop, but please keep it tidy.

See you all on Saturday.

Why would it be a 'long drawn out process'?

There is a process you need to go through to get a refund, we need to take a log from your car and complete a REVO credit request form with your vehicle details on, it takes around 25 mins in total. All you need to do is make an appointment to have this done and thats it, you will be refunded. I understand you did turn up unnanounced without an appointment and it couldnt be done there and then, as you have seen our place is upside down at the moment due to the installation of the new 4x4 dyno. We are expecting to be back up and running as normal on Saturday.

Unless you tell me otherwise, all cars running will have the bhp/torque figures recorded and the results will be posted in the appropriate forum thread.

See you all on Saturday.

We want the dyno graphs as well

why are DSG cars last to run? never seen that before

DSG equipped cars have been known to adversley effect the dyno so to make sure we get accurate readings they run last. An example of this was my K1 going on after a DSG S3 and making 421bhp - need i say more.

thats what i thought, maybe its just a peculiarity of the Dastek dyno, but i just cant see how the gear box effects a dyno, especially effecting others results.  But ive never heard of any issue on other dynos!!

Some were spot on my mates 197 made 197.3  but mine I acatully beat the Leon ko3 supercar and got 311  :surprised: that was a 5th gear run as to much wheel spin in 3rd and 4th!! The guy was honest and said its due to the tyres not getting warm enough as it was freezing so all the high hp cars were getting silly figures due to wheel spin.

Dastek Dynos are very old fasioned in the way that they calculate a BHP@wheels figure, they measure power at the wheels and then at the end of the ramp up run (ramp up is the run from 1000rpm -peak rpm) you knock the car into neutral and let it coast down to idle.

The rollers measure the resistance from the coastdown and add this as a percentage to the final figure.

I.e 100bhp @ wheels and a coastdown loss of 20% = 120bhp @ flywheel.

DSG down have a neutral gear to drop down to as easily so the dyno adds a 'fudge factor' to estimate power at the flywheel. If the operator forgets to remove this fudge factor then the next car gets massive bhp.

Problem with this method of coastdown flywheel calculation is if you dyno a car at 100bhp and then add a big turbo, remap etc.... And get 200bhp from the engine the transmission is still the same, with the same losses so your 20% loss that was 20bhp is now 40bhp so you get a magical 'free' 20bhp added to your flywheel figures. :stupid:

This is the reason that a car once made 205bhp on a Dyno dynamics dyno and the day before it made 234 bhp on a coastdown dyno, but made the exact same power at the wheels.

Nope, this was before the DSG cars went on.. Figures were a joke TBH.  :sad1: Not sure what problems they had @ Motorscope, as last time they were pretty accurate IMO (apart from my heat soaked mess  :signLOL: )..
Figures ranged from 410+bhp Stage 2+ Cupras, 310+bhp KO3's, 350+ Stage 1 KO4's to some cars not making the power they should/hoped for (Sing123's). But what makes it even stranger, is that some cars were on the button, leaving people to wonder whether their figures were high, low or bang on (especially those who haven't had them on the rollers before).. :stupid:
Real shame really, as if I had bothered to put mine on there, I would of felt that I had just chucked £35 down the drain.. Hence the reason I didn't..
Apart from that I had a cracking day to be fair. Saw loads of regular faces, many new ones and some I haven't seen for a good while.
Big thanks goes out to Jamie for the shotgun ride in his Stage 2 TTRS..  :driver:

A 197 making 197 is odd as they actually produce 178bhp in stock form, 197 is just a name. Same as the 172, its widely accepted and aknowledged that this engine makes 160ish standard.

Odd way that they do things in France :signLOL:

now that ^^^ explains my recent runs between a MAHA dyno (similar to Dastek in how they work I reckon) and SRR's DD dyno.

Wheel power figs were believable...but the Flywheel bhp of the MAHA dyno was bit too much for it to be accurate.

One thing I do know is that the Reno engine are known for bein way below or way over what the say as on the 197 forum some make 140 some make 190 same with the 172 they are shockin with the consistency!! So happy days for some and not for others.

note to myself  dont bother wasting my cash on a Dastek roller lol.  Surely if they are out they should be consistently out with all the cars.  Varied and random figures looks like potential operator issues to me.

@ PDT ive read about the figures on the Clio Renault Sports always under the 172/182/197/200 point on the clio forums.  Its widely accepted on them.  which makes them even more impressive IMO.

Exactly, Maha use a coastdown as well.

This is why Dyno Dynamics is such a massive brand and has overtaken every other dyno manufacturer, consistency and repeatable reliable results. The sooner the UK market accepts bhp@wheels the better. Gets rid of all this flywheel power rubbish which is nothing but a guess that the dyno makes (in some cases this guess is accurate, others its not)

Am i right in saying that they predict a transmission loss to work out the flywheel figures?  If so is that just generic FWD/RWD/4WD cars, as all gear boxes, brands and models will surely make varied losses

Crazy variation in figures is not likley an operator fault, a dyno day usually has 3 operators, one driving, the other 2 strapping and running the dyno. this reduces the chance of faults by the operator. Also if some cars are run in one gear and others in different gears this will give different results for different cars, if you test a car in 3rd the coastdown losses from say 6000rpm is a terminal speed of say 80mph so much less of a percentange of loss added to the bhp@wheels figure than a coastdown done in 5th with a terminal speed of 150mph, so flywheel figure will be estimated to be a lot higher due to a higher rolling resistance due to higher terminal speeds.

Big thanks goes out to Jamie for the shotgun ride in his Stage 2 TTRS..  :driver:

Pleasure mate... be interested to hear what you think about it!

My heads up my arse with the RR figures on my car, if I follow the rule of thumb of some of the 2.0tfsi boys that looked a bit high, I should maybe knock 20 to 30bhp off fly wheels figures, but that puts it way below what it should be, and what it feels like on the road.
I didn't like seeing them put it through 10 attempts and watching them attempt it with ESP not fully disengaged... poor thing was cooking  :signLOL:

Not posted in a while - shame on me :(

You should have just collared me at some point.... Ryan was helping me out with a few settings.... I had some very sketchy instructions, but we got there in the end (big thanks to Ryan again).

Don't like to talk about it mate, as I get depressed  :sad1: :signLOL:
Awesome motor my friend and nice to see you again  :happy2: It seemed to go very very well but was hard to gauge how much quicker than say mine is, as I didn't see the speedo (to busy holding on  :signLOL:) Some cars hide their actual performance depending on how smooth they are etc.. Not forgetting it's a manual too (a modded S-Tronic one will be even more bonkers  )
One thing is for certain, it's a fooking weapon and a definate future car I will be looking at at some point I hope..

I think your car is one of the few that got a accurate figure mate. Especially as it's around what Revo estimate.. Definately feels like a 400+bhp car IMO..

The stronic cars are going to be insane with just S1 on them, sub 4s to 60 ALL DAY LONG!  As discussed on the day, flappy paddles just don't float my boat... but I admit my days with a third peddle are numbered.... even the Porka GT3 and GT2 are rumoured to get paddles next time round :(
Anyway, appreciate your comments mate as you always have a pretty realistic view on this sort of stuff  :happy2:
