Title: Yet another GY assymetric sidewall blown!
Post by: no golf clubs at all on November 15, 2010, 11:03:59 am
Grrrs

I loved the Goodyear Assymetric F1s they made such a difference to my car, but I have to say in my experience the sidewall is way too soft!

I have now had 4 (on seperate occasions, over 2 years-ish) with damaged sidewalls! I have am nuts about avoiding potholes guys, I was on a poor road last week but drove at less than 10mph! I checked my tyres this morning and I have a huge bulb sticking out of my sidewall.

Luckily when I replaced the rears with PS3's this year I kept one of my good Assymetrics for just such an event!

I better get this one replaced quick sharp as it looks like a doozy...pics to follow laters. But I am not happy with the strength of these sidewalls...has anyone else had any issues to date? I know there was a few mutterings from others a while back but have heard no more about it.

Expensive business this....

Hmmm.... interesting. I've had GY F1 asymm's on mine now for nearly 3 years and 27k miles and never a problem. Hit a fair few potholes as well (bloody local council)...

I've just arranged to have 4 new F1 Asymm's fitted again this Saturday to replace the current ones that are now down to 2½mm all round.

Hope that doesn't mean the newer tyres are inferior to the older ones ?

Out of interest, mine are 225/40/18 XL, what size are yours mate ?

?? I tracked a set of Assys to bald, running kerbs and generally abusing them.. other than a bit of block wobble when new, they were perfect.

Dodgy batch/fitter?

if it helps, I took 2 Michelin PS2's off the front of mine recently and both had bulges , same size as you.

^^^There you go  :scared:

Looks like a cartoon bump on the head!

There is some marking on the rim so I reckon I must have hit a pothole, I do remember a nasty bang but didnt think the hole was that bad. As I say, I only mention it really as this is now my 4th similar bump....yes they are 225/40/18 Y XL and they are EU marked as you would expect.

I do trust my fitters they are top class experienced guys,...unlike the monkeys at my local Costco.

That's a pukka pothole egg!

Now, another thing I noticed, my Assyms were made in Germany. Where are they from?
