Title: Performance Friction Pads
Post by: rich83 on November 15, 2010, 11:18:31 am
Hello...

Are they any good? Do they come in various applications/compounds?

The reason why i ask is because i know someone who works for the UK distribution company for them., so might be able to get some cheapish!!

Rich

I need some pads for an R32 kit ive just bought!

It's race car stuff, so expect a bit more dust and noise, but they'll stop you every single time.

97 compound will suit you fine, don't run them on a used disc though - Carbon Metallic stuff needs a clean surface or it judders.

Look at Carbotech XP8 compound too. They'll copy a backingplate if they don't list the R32.

Not really a everyday winterpad Rich, just found your text on my car bluetooth this morning so was going to PM you tonight.

I think your idea of DS2500's for fast road is a good one, they're a good road pad as long as you dont expect wonders from them on track...it would appear evident that the M1144 would be a better choice for track days with Tom and Gaz both having had a good day out on them both at anglesea and at the ring, Gaz did 70 laps on his that day in 6 lap stints and they hung on theres a big 120-130mph stop to a hairpin corner there.

We were worried about how they'd coped but I've had them in my hand and they did ok

I dont think you'll find a PF pad for the R32 caliper but is also used in some Volvo's and some Mazda's without the rear clips which will make them very noisy and annoying to live with as a daily.

PS package x 2 with you tomorrow

:signLOL: No problem with the text... easy done!

So DS2500 looking favourite as i don't intend to track it yet. What are they like compared to Pagid Blue? And whats are they price wise?

Thanks for the kit dave... what else do i need apart from the pads? Dust covers i presume and some new carrier bolts?

Rich

I used the Carbotechs as a daily, but I had a bit more oopff behind them to assist them when cold I guess. Those Mintex are ideal for what you want.

Dave - PM BTW.

Hes right last two sets on the planet for a while went to chungster and GazbutS3, I can find out when they'll be back in stock if you like.

They were going out for a 100 quid I managed to get everybody about 30% off them...... DS2500's are probably 140 quid or something stupid

Ha ha ha!!

Compared to £50 OEMs, fair enough - but Pagids last 3 times as long as anything else and have excellent feel. Hurts up front though!!!

Hmm?? might have to send you a PM after Crimbo Rich now that i know you can get Performance friction pads
They are the best ones for my Exige and track, though i have read that the dust can wreck the wheels when new if it is raining when they are throwing off lots of dust for the first few drives. I have read some cases of wheels needing a refurb.

Team Bora use blues in their track car, think it's done 5 TDs, about 50 Ring laps on 1 set so far. Doesn't fail to stop.  :happy2:

reassuring they last cause they're not a cheap pad

Generally the rule of thumb with Pagids, they cost more but they last much longer.

That equates to a lot of fast road miles! :-)

A friend is running them on his Octavia RS with Tarox G88 both track and daily.
Yesterday he told me if he would swap to others he would miss the squeeling in town.

Very happy with braking even on track though - no fading, great feel.

 :drinking:

ps: compared to Endless they are cheap

Oh ref corrosive dust:

I think that's a problem since resolved with the compounds?? Minuscule red hot flecks of metal would stick in your paint, and when it rained having left the dust on the car they went rusty.

Race compounds don't really bother racers, obviously enthusiasts would prefer something a little less messy.

I had the carbon ceramics on the m3, and i was very happy with them !
The ds2.5ks are pretty good too, i found them a bit messy though.

If you want the best pads then it has to be endless.  Thats all we use on the race lambos now.  They will last a full 24 hour race and somehow dont damage the discs  :surprised:

We would use a front set of Pagid RS29's per 2-3 hour race and then a set of discs every two races.

The endless are £600 per corner which will last a season and the pagids are £150 per corner.  The endless pads brake better too.
