Post by: Gtiain on November 17, 2010, 10:05:06 am
I own an xbox 360 however, desperatly want gt5! It's a simple question really, should i buy a ps3 purely for this game alone?!!

when the ps3 was going through a quite patch on the games front, i purchased a xbox just for forza 3, yeah it was OK but after you have modded a few of your fav cars and raced them around the ring i got bored and now have a huge lump of black microsoft plastic sat gathering dust next to my tv..

gt5 on the other hand is well worth it, get the credit card out

i've resisted the ps3 until this came out and feel it is only a matter of time, i did have ocd on GT1 & 2 where everycar bought had to be white and have the same alloys

It's worth it just for the blu ray and the fact it supports 3D blu rays now. The 360 is better for online gaming, I got cod on my PS3 and wish I got it on my 360 now.

I bought the xbox just for nurbrurgring practise. Haha! I got cod mw2 on both now. I do prefer the gameplay on the xbox but as a whole I prefer the ps3. Much more advanced piece of kit

I wont be. The car list is rubbish. GT4 plus a few new cars. That's it.

Apparently the physics are still 'woolly' at best and the list of tracks is still missing some legendary circuits that really should be there (Spa and Silverstone to name two).

No B7 RS4
No AML DBS
No 430 Scud or 599 GTO
No Porsches at all (and most of the Ruf cars have been lifted for GT4)
Hardly any of the 'normal' cars have been updated - No MkII RS Focus, no MkVI GTI

I could go on. They've spent too much time on the graphics and not a lot else.

Just like Black Ops, this looks set to be another over-due, over-hyped anti-climax

Thanks Animal.  :happy2:

From what you have said I can save myself from buying the inferior console just for GT5.
Bearing in mind it was supposed to be a PS3 launch title what exactly have they done for the last 3 or was it more years.

That my friend is what I'd also like to know! I was hoping the delay might mean they were introducing a 3D element (depth perception in racing games in about the best use for 3D tvs I can think of!) or something similar to bring it bang up to date. Or that they were even waiting so that they could include some newer cars (599 GTO for instance) but no. Just a re-skinned GT4 with a handful of new-ish cars and the boring TG test track. Brilliant.

Surely you've had plenty of that from passenger rides?

Good point about the lack of newer cars however, surely they will release cars like forza for you to download? Also I've heard the special edition comes with 11 extra cars. Don't know what these are though!

I'm just disappointed at the apparent lack of progress given how long its taken for them to get it right.

collectors edition £59.99

signature edition £149.99 (i think, maybe more and only available in Game) you get the chance to win a sls amg though  :rolleye:

Well lets play it for ourselves first and judge it then. I'm pretty sure it will still be head and shoulders above any Racing game so far regardless of it's perceived 'faults'  :happy2:

I for one can't fookin wait!!

Exactly! I think maybe we should play it before criticising it! I'm sure that they will make download packs available with extra cars.

I also think it's great that the topgear test track is on! Should be fun if I decide to buy a ps3!

Fair enough, but physics etc. aside, I still expected a better complement of cars and not a million variants of Skylines old and new... yawn.

Forza's content is always way above GT series imo.I had the Ps3 and sold it, and went back to Xbox360. I hope GT5 is finally something to shout about, its just a shame that the consol only has a couple of good titled games with decent online gameplay.

Its not worth buying a consol just for this game.

Wait for it to hit the shelves and get tested by others before splashing the cash.

Do you have to pay an online subscription charge like xbox live?
Title: Re: Gaming dilema!

AFAIK on Ps3 , you dont. About the only gripe i personally have with Xbox's terms and cons is there Subs fee's.

I plan on waiting until it comes out in stores and I can have a go on some machines before I buy GT5. I'd advise anyone who wants a PS3 purely for GT5 to do this. I bought the PS3 on a whim (would have gone for the Xbox but reports of RROD were out at the time which put me off).

Blu-ray does look immense on the right set up. The PS3 was the cheapest blu-ray player at the time too.

There are unverified reports that there will be DLC later. GT6 will also have the same game engine, so won't be as much of a leap as GT5 should be.

Is it definitely going to be 3D as well?

XBox 360 gave up the will to live today  :sad1:  so GT5 would help me "Console" myself - sorry couldn't resist the pun :ashamed:

Is does? Oooh... I thought that was a rumour! I'm suddenly interested again. I'm of the opinion that racing games are one of the best (useful) applications for 3D as I've always struggled with the lack of depth perception in racing games (even though I don't own any other type of game on my PS2).

Loved GT4 on the PS2, so purchase of PS3 for GT5 totally justified for me!!

comparisons to forza?  :happy2:
Title: Re: Gaming dilema!
Post by: GTIjames on November 22, 2010, 06:55:25 pm
I am always a bit biased against forza as my steering wheel did not work with xbox so when comparing it with ps3 games the latter always came out on top in terms of playability

Forza was good with the choice of cars and modding bit, but gameplay lacked and the season challenges were weak with no real progression just a few more points so you can go and modd some more cars, which got  :indifferent: after a while

Cant comment just yet on gt5 as still doing the licence bits, but purchased a 2nd handa mazda mx5 for 16k ish and looking forward to starting my career  :happy2:

How's your career going James?!

currently on hold due to work commitments... but so far so good  :happy2: got the first two licences and completed a few of the beginner challenges

got some more cash after my victories and was going to purcahse a nissan gtr for 72000 but you have to be level 11 and above  :sad1: so went for a lotus evora though only had a brief drive as it was getting late last night but first impressions are good.

highlight has to be go-karting which is one of the special challenges, its very realisitic with the karts been easy to spin out but great fun, when on-line racing works (currently not available) this will be incredible
