Hi everyone,
I finally picked up my Golf GTi yesterday and have many plans for the car.
I would just like to say this is a great site and even in this short period of time the members have been very friendly and helpful!
I have had it less than 4 hours before it went straight to the bodyshop to begin the modding!
This is what it looked like when I bought it yesterday:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi150.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs111%2Fsmoftah%2F2161826-1.jpg&hash=e651c18e20e68b8097f27e66e54e75e6d9ecc390)

First up was the R32 style rear lower bumper which I got from fleebay. It was very poor quality and required a lot of work to sort it out and is still not 100% flush.
I was quite annoyed when it was described as 100% perfect fit.
First we stripped the back of the car which ended up like this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi150.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs111%2Fsmoftah%2FIMG_0222.jpg&hash=c9efad82689ddedb4da47b60500f9743bbdcf5e5)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi150.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs111%2Fsmoftah%2FIMG_0223.jpg&hash=bf3811dc43177f1a32045b760b2fc2fb230d414e)
Then we sprayed the rear bumper top in Met black again and colour coded the lower groove in the same colour as the inners of the 18" Monza wheels:

We also used E-Tech spray to darken the rear lights and I am happy with the result :happy2:
I am going today to have 4 new Michelin Tyres put on but I can not wait for Monday as the car will be going to have a full leather retrim in tan / truffle leather! Also the rear window will be tinted

Cruise control to be fitted on Thursday when I get the car back and that is it for now! :signLOL:
Can forget these too :signLOL:

Eager Beaver!! That rear valance looks brilliant! :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:
-
Liking the back. Welcome.

Nicely specced car, with all the right toys by the look of it, interested to see what the re-trim is like. Rear bumper looks good considering the issues you had with it, although not the first time have heard about someone having issues with the fitment of R32 lower with GTI exhaust exits, someone else bought one and was disappointed. Looks like they made a good job of it! :happy2:
-
Very nice mate, If you have done this many mods in 24 hours then I can promise you won't stop at the retrim. I was similar, this forum takes your money, and throws it at every possible mod you can get!
-
Thanks for the comments! :happy2:

It took us 5 hours to get the bumper to what you see but it is still not perfect - so in a week after the retrim its going back to the bodyshop so we can finish it off properly.
I really suggest that no one buys that lower bumper unless they know someone in a bodyshop as the labour charge will be big to get it upto sctratch.
I complained to the company on ebay and they have just refunded me £60 to help pay for some of the work it has taken so I am happy with that

I am looking forward to losing a lot of money then :signLOL:

Nice car you found at a really good price :happy2: I like the rear bumper, having the standard exhaust hole but in a r32 bumper makes it look fresh as i havent seen many done and now i know why if it took the bodyshop that long to do it. You Sir certainly dont hang around. Look forward to seeing the pics of your retrim.
Top work so far.
:popcornsoda:

Rear bumper + other small mods so far get massive thumbs up from me :happy2:

Thanks, Yes I am very happy with the car. Before I bought it I had an idea of exactly what I wanted it to look like and life's too short to wait for things :signLOL:

I used Back E-Tech spray and some clear lacquer to get that result.

Me too I can't wait! :signLOL:

Loving the rear bumper Smoftah!! completely transforms the car. I've got to ask as i'm not to clued up when it comes to body work etc but obviously the R32 rear has the exhausts out the middle so i'm guessing these had to be filled/smoothed etc and then a cut made where the standard GTI exhaust goes?. Feel free to call me stupid if i'm way off haha.

Thanks, this is a R32 style rear bumper, it is not actually an R32 rear bumper so the hole for the exhaust was in the right the place for the GTi from when it was made. :happy2:
-
very nice one...do u mind give me a link for the bumper?cant find r32 bumper with that kind of valence...
-
The seller has not relisted the item yet but here is the link to the one I bought. I am sure if you contact them they can sell you one outside of ebay. :happy2:

Mate love the rear. Are you going to do the front spoiler in the same grey colour to match?
Would love to see a retrim in a lighter colour - i've seen Plush's pink and delboy's blue.
-
thanks buddy for the link.....

I am leaving the front as it is - I think it looks awesome already
I dropped the Golf off yesterday to the leather company and they said everything should be fine for Thursday pick up and the rear window will be done at the same time! Cant wait to see it!
I feel like I am missing a limb without my car :signLOL:
-
Rear diffuser in grey looks nice :happy2:
I was thinking of doing the same but not sure if it would look as good on an Ed30 rear bumper..... :rolleye:

I was looking at the ED30 bumper too.
I think it would look brilliant with the grey lower part! :happy2:

I am in love with the interior now and the car is complete for me! ( When I get the cruise control fitted :signLOL: )
Will post more pics when I have cleaned the car to show the tinted rear window aswell. :happy2:

Nice Job! who did that?

I paid £925 to have it done. Worth every penny to me

Always been scpetical about the quality of retro fit leather re-trims, but that looks fantastic workmanship, can see why you're pleased :happy2:
-
not too bad of price
I would of had the gear gaitor done also and kept the GTI in the headrests, but still looks nice :happy2:

I agree wish they could keep the GTi in the headrests.
Tomorrow I am going to attempt to fit the cruise control. Wish me luck :signLOL:
-
That looks very cosy! :happy2:
Do they have to strip the old trim off of just put the leather on top?
-
^ I never normally like any leather anyway, let alone different colours...
But I think that just about ticks my 'like' box Smoftah. Brave move having it re-trimmed in the first place too imo :happy2:
Door trims look neat too :congrats:
-
Love the retrim - brightens up the interior a tad.
-
loving the colour, Good choice.
-
Thanks for all the comments :happy2:

Yes they stripped off the old cloth but used the original seat foam and heated seats e.t.c.
Definately need the heated seats now its soooooo cold!
-
Wrilly nice interior.
But where do you get the little GTI badges on the side of the seats?

-
Lovely work on the interior very similar to the Sciroco tan/biscuit colour you can get.
-
Thanks :happy2:
The tan / biscuit is what I was after.
-
Very nice interior re-trim.Was a bit dubious of how it would look in a black car,but it really works.
Good price too excellent value for money by the looks of it :happy2:
Any more plans for it?
