Title: Best place for a new battery
Post by: Rob GTI on November 23, 2010, 03:30:17 pm
I've not been using the car much lately and had a flat battery this morning, so give the car a good 1 hr and a half run and immediately after it is still reluctant to turn over so need to get the alternator checked out but assuming its the battery where is the best place (cheapest) to get a new one. Also is there any that can be considered an upgrade. Don't think i want a braile battery but is there anything with more current etc?

If I were you I would make sure the cranking volts etc are all the same including the size! Varta or Bosch for me :happy2:

Give GSF a go as they are normally pretty competitive

I think the stealers are actually pretty competitive for batterys.  Or costco if you have a card.

Halfrauds batterys are good quality with a long warranty. just get yourself a trade card and they are cheap as well.

Go in with some sort of proof that you work in the motor trade ( most dont even ask) and they give you one. I used one of my own business cards and they accepted it.

Most of my mates knocked up a letterhead in microsoft office and used that, not that i condone this type of behaviour :innocent:

I have just been pricing up a new battery for the Audi :scared: it's a 2.0 TDi so needs a big one
(S5008 / 096 BOSCH SILVER PLUS Car Battery 12V 77Ah)

Costco want £91.63 incl vat (yes i am a member)

But i have found it cheaper at www.boschbatteries.com for £85.99 posted or £78 collected (which i can do as they are local)

I'd put it in the same place as the old one.

How do they do that when they claim delivery is free?

Just checked some of the sites mentioned here...what's the 'cold cranking' specification on the batteries refer to?

Dont forget that if changing the battery on your car, if you have a REVO map, it will lose the settings applied to it (The Fuel, Timing and Boost bit) also if you have any of the OEM headunits, make sure you have the pin handy in case it prompts you for it, to save any agro on finding out what it is after you need it.

How on the subject of weight...how much does an OEM battery typically weigh, and how much would a mid-range weight saving one be in comparison?

Any recommendations?
