hi was on my way home earlier in the snow and when the car lost traction and the wheels began to spin there was a nasty grinding noise coming from the left wheel. it does the noise both with the traction on and off.
any ideas?
cheers

Probably the ABS cutting in, can't think of much else it could have been?
-
Mine made the same noise yesterday mate, It spooked me too but I'm sure its nothing to worry about.

You can't turn the traction control off completely. The noise I'm sure is the traction control applying the brake to stop the wheels spinning. In reality it just leaves you stuck:(

If you were really worried about it you could pull the ABS/ESP fuse(s) and see if the noise goes away, but I wouldn't recommend doing it for road use!

Its quite normal, really spooked me the first time i heard it, really bad grinding noise

cheers for all the replies :happy2:

Does anyone know why it makes such a noise? Surely it's only the car applying the brakes?

It is an awful noise and I'd also like to know the answer. Our mini copper s makes no noise when the traction control kicks in?
