Title: Aparoon's BMW 123d
Post by: Beddie on December 01, 2010, 08:55:46 pm
Posting on behalf of Aparoon because he's a computer 'tard...

Some of you may remember the mod-a-thon that was Appers old ED30, well here's the replacement...

Its a 2008 BMW 123d with pretty much every factory option fitted and was purchased with the usual promise of it 'being perfect in every way and not going to be modded' which i knew to be a lie from the very start haha!

The day of pick-up

Then came the inevitable mods..

BMW Performance black grill kit
BMW Performance ali pedal set
BMW Performance carbon rear spoiler
BMW Performance silver side stripes

OEM wheels powder coated black
Roof resprayed in gloss black

Cheers Ste  :happy2:

And yeah I almost went for the 135i, test drove one the day before buying this ! But I am happy with the 123d and wouldnt swap it, standard GTI performance with double the fuel economy and cheap insurance etc, suits me perfect at the minute! Although I will be getting it mapped soon - ish, 250bhp and 350lb torque apparently, should be nice.. Then some nice wheels at the start of summer and im done  :happy2:

The roofs BMW Schwarz black metallic (i think) getting it flat and polished this week to finish it off

Love the interior ... always had a thing for red leather  :ashamed:

Do they do a DSG / twin clutch on the 123d or 135i?

Yes they do for the 135i, think they call it DCT... Would have loved it on mine  :ashamed:

I was thinking of those mods too, before I saw the pic. The only one I'm not a fan of is the spoiler.

The spoiler was one thing I had to have, I just thought the rear was a bit bland, the pics dont do it justice the carbon looks great in the sun..

Im thinking about some spacers but i'm getting new wheels for summer so might just wait and get a more aggressive fitment :rolleye:

Aye the spoiler is nice, good contrast to the silver paint. Reminds me of the one of an A4 dtm.

Do they do a Front Splitter for the 123d?

Look good on the 335i  No snow plough option yet  :signLOL:

Title: Re: Aparoon's BMW 123d
Post by: Aparoon on December 02, 2010, 01:11:37 pm
They don't do a full splitter I don't think, there's 2 small sections you can get that go on the lower left and right, but I think they only fit the performance bumper?

I loved my Ed30 and thought it looked great, but I wanted one of these sine I first saw one on a billboard I just love the way they look, its better than my golf in every way just not as fast...

Love it, great styling touches. Really enjoy mapping these, not the easiest to map for really good power but worth the 3 hours on the dyno just to see the owners face when they test drive them afterwards!

Beware of tuners that attempt OBD port remaps, depending on the software version these ECU's can go kaput unless mapped in boot mode on the bench.

Some VMR v710 in black would finish that car off perfectly, they also do aggressive fitments so you wouldnt need spacers.

Title: Re: Aparoon's BMW 123d

I have Hankook Icebears on the front and Contiwinter Ts810s on the rear, they are brilliant, my road is completely froze and covered in snow, my golf was stuck here for 10days last year, I was told the BMW would be terrible but not had a issue so the tyres must be making the difference ...

Tyres really do make a massive difference as I have just found out on my 330i. I've just today driven down a road where a WRX with summer tyres was stuck. And to think, I nearly bought a 1983 land rover this week for the winter as I though the BMW wouldn't be going anywhere  :scared:

We have 2 outlets, one in Newcastle and the other in Hounslow (near london).  We charge £350 for a map on the 123d including dyno testing.

Hope this helps.

Cheers. Im very tempted by CSl wheels but the only company I can find that do them in a decent offset are in America... I'm really undecided with the wheels, the plan was to buy new but now im tempted to just get some spacers as I do like the standard ones ?

Looking really good with the cosmetic mods - Makes a big difference  :happy2:

I'm not a diesel driver though, so my love of your car is limited.

Loving the red interior and it's very classic with silver. I think the car will look cheap with a vinyl wrap. Just being honest in my opinion.

I had seen them , I bet they would look great especially in anthracite !

I think matt white would look good but am worried it could oook cheap or ott..

This is my first diesel Robin, but I cant fault it, it revs quite like a petrol ( within reason ) and with the mileage im doing its perfect

just check the anthracite finish i read on the z4 forum about the finish on anthracite versions not being top quality , not the ones from bm auto sport , im pretty sure they would be ok but watch any others you see

Appers, what mileage are you getting out of both the front and rears? What tyres have you opted for when replacing them (if you have yet) and what are you paying?
Also, what did you pay for the following and are they from BMW only, or available elsewhere :-
BMW Performance black grill kit
BMW Performance ali pedal set
BMW Performance carbon rear spoiler
Wheels sprayed
Sorry for all the questions mate. Just trying to price up how much rubber the 135i will eat with the mileage I do. Plus I will be getting the following bits ready to go straight on if I do get clearence for the BM, which I find out today   :scared:

No worries mate ask away.

I've had the car for around 6 months and done 8000miles. I was originally running the bridgestone runflats, they were like new when i got the car and when i fitted the winter tyres in november (say 5000 miles use ) the fronts were still like new and the rears are looowwww haha. I have run the winter tyres for about 3 months 3000 miles and again the fronts have barely changed but i seem to have chewed through the rears.

I bought the performance parts from the dealer. I paid £70 for the grills i think,£60 for the pedals , £280 for the rear spoiler and the stripes were about £90 fitted. I thought the prices were reasonable I expected them to be a lot more.

I paid £250 for the wheels to be done black but that should have been £200 but I had a curb mark repaired :ashamed:

The bridgestones are ridiculous, £211 a tyre for the rear and about £160 for the fronts. I think if you go non runflats youre looking at £150 rears and £120ish  fronts , brand depenant obviously

So yeah your biggest expense will be rear tyres  :happy2:

Im going to put the runflats back on and wear them down then go for some falken fk452's i think or vredesteins, traction is great so I will try the cheaper tyres before  spending a fortune on Michelins etc

Finally got the all clear on mine yesterday and the order has been placed..  :pomppomp:  :pomppomp: So will be get the dealer to fit the grills and spoiler ready for collection I think..   Then stright off to get the wheels done asap and should look mint when done (especially if yours is anything to go by)..

Roll on 10 weeks time, can't wait..  :jumping: Only downside is I can't go mad on spec, so have had to go without a few bits..  :sad1:

Appers. I think a darkish red, a bit like the banner on this forum??

BMW were flogging winter steels last year for pennies, should be a few sets knocking around?

I've got E46 17x8s, pick a non-popular style and you'll snag some very cheaply, I paid £220 all in with virtually brand new Conti winters.

BMW say £1600 for wheels and tyres, they have to be 17s to clear brakes, I went to buy some e46 steelies as I read they fit bm told me would invalidate warranty :signLOL:

Just do it, they'll look nice and if you don't like them, change them again!

Love my car, it still scares me a bit even now - proper monster. 335is are going for nothing at the minute, lot of car for the money.

LOL spastics. They'd have been told to get to ****!
