Title: Osram Night Breaker's
Post by: keendean on December 02, 2010, 09:48:09 pm

I know I'm going to need side lights too, my poor ED30 does not have flashy Xenons, so have read a few people rate these? I don't know what bulbs I need just the dipped and sidelights, but what H bulbs do I need?  Thanks

I did try the serach too, but nothing conclusive.

I fitted Phillips X-treme Vision dipped headlight bulbs in the Ed 30 about 2 weeks ago and very happy so far.  These are new 100% brighter and seem very good if a bit pricey (think the price is because they are the newest tech).

I ran a Mk5 R32 for just over a year previously and really missed the zenons on un-lit country lanes after moving to the non xenon Ed 30.  These bubls seem close to xenons to me but haven't done back to back test to prove it.

Hope this helps!

Get the new Nightbreaker PLUS they are truly more superior. I have tried both and the PLUS are brighter.

I've got no experience of the Philips

I have the philips bulbs in mine. They genuinely chuck out 80% more light and trounce our minis xenons. Only downside is the light is still quite yellow, certainly don't look as white as the osrams in the above picture

Although I have gone with Phillips extreme, nightbreaker plus looks like the equivalant from Osram and may be better value than Phillips.  Again no first hand experience of nightbreaker plus but I have used nightbreaker in Mk1 leon Cupra R and was happy with that upgrade over standard.

I don't think you will go too far wrong with either of these as both have good reputation for their older products in past autocar tests over the years

Note that latest Phillips are 100% brighter not 80%
