Title: trackday rims 7x18"
Post by: danishmkvgti on December 03, 2010, 04:30:24 pm
Hi,

I'm looking at a set of original 7x18" alloy rims and want 225/40-18" tyres on them. is the rim to small being only 7" wide for me to get some good trackdaywheels out of them??

I use 17in, 7.5j track wheels and when i got them i thought the same but i was comparing them against my works at 8.5. The standard Monza is 7.5 as well. You might notice the difference if you were a full time professional, but i have seen your times at the ring.   :innocent:

So you will be fine.  :signLOL:

As they are original they should be reasonably light compared to copies, just wanted to be sure they aren't to small for my 225 tyres. As usual your fastest with the right answer TC  :P

To be honest, i never read your question properly,   :ashamed:   i was just thinking in regards to the width of the wheel being to narrow for track action. They would fit but you need to ask some one like Jonny or jabba to be honest, as obviously you would be putting them under extreme test.   :happy2:

I've got 225s on 17x7s on my current car, they're fine.... however, ensure the tyre is up to taking a Golf's weight, my new car is a lot lighter.

I would suggest deciding on the tires first.
For example, for BFGoodrich g-Force R1 the recommended rim width for 225 wide tires is 8 inches (I sent them a mail).
For Kumho v70a the recommended rim width for 225 wide tires is 7.5 inches for 17 inch wheels and 8 inches for 18 inch wheels.
Anyway, as a general idea, I would go with a width of 7,5 inches at a minimum for 18 inch wheels.
