Just a quick question.
I have the winter pack on my car and I have read somewhere that the washer jets are heated?
If so what do you have to have switched on to make them work?
Cheers
-
Yes, you have heated jets. To switch them on, you just have to turn on the ignition (they are always on iirc).
-
I know this has probably been asked previously but what does the winter pack consist of?
-
I'm not too sure if it's the same in the UK as in Belgium, but here it consists of:
- heated front seats
- heated washer jets
- headlamp washer jets (including a larger washer fluid bottle)
-edit-
And a low level washer fluid warning light.
-
that's what it is in Sweden, as mine is a RHD import from sweden and it came with winter pack as std.
-
Interesting, i have head light washers but no heated seats. I dont think i have heated washer jets as they have not worked for the last week in the chilly conditions!!!

I seem to remember something about the heated washers being connected to the heated rear screen, so when that is switched on so are the heated washer jets  could be talkin arse though

Funny that, I have heated seats (leather upholstery) but no winter pack, hence no heated washer jets. However even though it's been below freezing for a week now, and today's temperatures were down as low as -8 deg C, my washer jets have worked all week.
Think it's got more to do with the quality and quantity of screen wash additive in your bottle than anything else.
-
Xenon lights have headlight washers, leather seats are heated.

I do have xenons so thats the reason for my highlight washers.. nice one.. :happy2: :happy2:

Any idea how easy the low washer fluid warning is to retrofit? Had this on the mk4 and really miss it. Can't understand why it wasn't standard on the mk5 ...
-
Saw someone comment on it, can remeber if they said you just need to fit the sensor, or if only the larger washer bottle has the hole for the sensor.... have a feeling it might have been in darrens build thread when he retro fitted his xenons!
-
I have the winter pack & heated door mirrors also which I assumed was part of the pack & not as standard?
If I have heated washer jets then they must be pretty cack as they haven't worked for the past week!
I do have heated seats, washer fluid level warning, headlight washer jets

heated electric mirrors were standard buddy, not sure if mine has winter pack but as I have xenons so washer fluid warning and headlamp washers and leather so heated seats its rather hard to tell  I have avoided washing the screen when freshly starting the car, and usually wait till engine warmed up and have been fine with the headlamp and washer jets not being frozen, but temps down in kent have only been down to -2.5 since I dug it out of the snow, so god knows how it would cope with being tup north!
-
I've just had the car idling for half an hour in the drive to get some heat into it (it was -16 here last night) and I noticed that the panel that the headlight jets are behind is stuck out on one side of the car. The other side of the car has returned to the closed position. I tried to defrost it and push it back in but don't want to force it. Am I right in saying that the headlight jets only work when the car is moving? Any advice on how to resolve this or is it a case of seeing what happens when the car finally gets defrosted and back on the road?
Thanks everyone!

i dont have winter pack and my jets are fine
there stuff you put in your washer bottle
its called screen wash and it dont freezzzz if you
put correct amount in :signLOL:
i live in scotland so its been very cold :P

Headlamp washers will work on the move or stationary, just idling probably wont have produced that much heat might be worth going for a run until at least the water temp needle reaches the top. Not suffered from freezing issue with the jets sticking out or in I have avoided using the washers when freshly started for this reason. Hopefully it will go back in either by itself or on next use. There is a fuse dedicated to them so might be worth checking that if they dont seem to right themselves.

This happened to me once -- it didn't return to its closed position until about a day later when the ambient temperature had gone up a way.

I have the heated leather and the headlight washer jets and was led to believe the heated washer jets too. To be honest though I was sceptical as they don't actually seem to do sh*t so I took the jets out to see what was what. They have some sort of electrical connection which i presume is the heating element but there still useless if you ask me. Although being linked the the rear heated screen sounds interesting? Might give that a whirl and see of it improves.

headlight jets only work when headlights are on, car doesn't have to be moving, just headlights and ignition on and wash the windscreen and hey presto the headlight washers go off as well (at least they do on my car!)
UB7RN The winter pack headlight washers come with the low fluid warning lamp so I suggest you can find the relavnt parts easily enough in EKTA and retrofit, don't know if the car will then need coding to recognise them or not?
-
Think car will need coding for them, you can also specify the length of time they activate through VCDS.

Dont worry about your panel on you headlight washer jets. What happens is they get iced up and the ice pushes them out a bit. When they are defrosted use them again and they will return back to their original position. I had this last year when driving up through northern Scotland @ -16 and they were both stuck out and froze solid. The car looked like a kids transformer!!
Hope this helps.
I still havent got a definate answer on how the heated jets work!!!!
Anybody?
-
eerrrrrr they dont :P

Heated washer jets have a heating element that is wired directly to the fuse box and will remain on while the ignition is on

My washer jets hav not worked for over a week, even with neet screen wash (ok upto -16). And thats with heated washers etc
-
I checked out the car again, now that the big thaw is on, and the panels have returned to the closed position by themselves! It would appear that I have a self-healing GTI - result!
Thanks for taking the time offer help and suggestions.

get a kettle of hot water and pour it into the washer jet slowly don't try and push it in but rather pull it out.
Once its free it'll go back in itself.
