Hi All,
A mate of mine managed to grab himself a bargain RNS but the front fascia was badly damaged (it is legit!!) but luckily not the screen. He has ordered a new fascia but is not sure how to get the damaged one off.
It looks like its just held on by a few tabs, can anyone confirm how to remove the fascia without causing any damage to the screen/buttons ect.
Thanks in advance :happy2:

Someone else asked this a few weeks back. Try searching for it. Don't recall it being anything more involved than tabs.
-
Cheers Stealth,
Did'nt have much luck with the search though.
My mates not very good with D.I.Y! Ill pull mine out and take a look.

PM Darren, he's your man. He's always taking RNS units to pieces.
-
Cheers Andrew,
Iv pestered him enough lately so I thought I'd post!!

Fair enough, I know what you mean. I always feel guilty contacting Darren as well, as he's helped me so much in the past.

Hey don't be silly guy's if you need help just let me know :happy2:
Lee I've not posted yet because I'm rubbish at describing how to do things! but Ill have a go for you....
Basically there is 2 screws either side of the unit, once these are out the front will come forward to reveal the inside and 2 ribbon cables and another cable for the power.
Take the cables off with care, and the front will come away, place the front on a soft towel and you'll see on the back a metal plate with some cut outs for the indent clips? place a small screw driver to the side of the indents not in them, don't be scared at this point just give it a good prise out. once the rear metal plate is off place to the side and again watch you don't snag the cables??
Right you have got this far you'll see 1 of 2 things dependant on the version if its an A - B version there'll be a gold coloured plate covering the board? if its a C version the cover will not be there...Just prise the cover off been careful not to snag the cables again.
Once the cover is off there is a number of chrome screws on the board take them out and then there is a number of clips around the outside of the board its easy enough to take out but be careful.
Once the board is out there will be 2 small ribbon cables to the left side and depending on version again either a 2 pin white plug on an A - B version or a small 2 pin ribbon cable on an C version to the right side. Take these off and the screen will push out from the front.
Just put it back together the way you took it apart and make sure all the ribbon cables are in firmly.
Hope this makes sense Lee.
Cheers

All that to remove the surround?? :rolleye:
The screen and buttons are fine its just the grey/black plastic fascia that goes around the buttons ect with the cd and sd card slot in it.

Sorry to bump this thread on an unrelated (sort of) topic, but I've got an RNS 510 in my car and its developed a white screen issue. The unit works fully except I can't use or see the touchscreen interface. I can only assume some connection to the screen has become detached inside.
I assume if I follow your instructions Darren I can just take off the front of the unit and make sure all the connections are sound? Is that likely to solve my problem?

Big possibility it should sort it out if not then you have a problem with the motherboard...? although if there was a problem with the motherboard then the screen would not come on at all :happy2:
Just make sure all the connections are in properly with no cracks in the ribbon.
Cheers

Well, I removed the unit from the car this afternoon and took off as much of the front fascia as I dare......all three ribbons appeared to be properly seated with no cracks or breaks as far as I could see. I decided to remove and reseat all the ribbons anyway just in case.
Got everything put back together - no change :(
Anyone have any ideas where I can send the unit for some sort of proper going over? Don't fancy a main dealer (who I'm sure will probably want to replace the unit at dealer prices), and doubt smaller garages would have much of a clue....

There is a company called ADM car audio in Leeds which are excellent with the RNS510s and RCD510s.
I have took a couple there for Paul to sort out and he has done the job.

Give him a call and see what he thinks

Hi all,
I too am trying to remove the front panel bezel (piano black/grey plastic) only from the RNS510. I tried to prise it out but rather than wreck the whole thing when it didn't budge I thought I'd do a search. This is the closest I got to an explanation. Am I right in saying that the whole front panel needs to be removed before I remove the front bezel?
I did have a peek inside by removing the 4 side screws and did see the ribbon connectors. 2 ribbons appear to be simply inserted into their connectors but I am not sure how they are held in place (i.e are there any secondary latching mechanisms on these connectors).
Any clarification would be appreciated, just don't want to make an expensive door wedge out of this fabulous kit!
Thank you.

can anyone help with the above please, still can't figure it out and don't want to risk guessing... Thanks.
